    Business Ethics in METHOD:

    The Founder (Eric Ryan & Adam Lowry) introduces home cleaning and personal care products which are

    non-toxic, biodegradable, inexpensive, not tested on animals and using recycled plastic. They socialize a

    campaign about people against dirty, in whatever form dirty appears at homes and/or in environment.

    Theyre committed to sustainability and received nod in 2006 both as PETA persons of the yearand in

    Times Whos who Eco-Guide.

    Marketing Management in METHOD

    1. Method produces broad range of home cleaning and personal care products with the tagline:People Against Dirty. They have a very specific competitive advantage which is eco-friendly

    products (ingredients that come from renewable sources)

    2. Method makes something different ideas and innovative products to compete with giantcompanies such as P&G, SC Johnson, Unilever, and Colgate-Palmolive. It becomes their

    competitive advantage to gain some of the market share which was dominated by giantcompanies.

    3. Premium market positioning due to innovative eco friendly product and cool design.4. Market communication through environment friendly issue to their customers candidate (Tag

    lines: cleans like mother &people against dirty on shirts and baseball caps)

    5. Using big network of Distribution channels to accelerate product acceptance and deliverable totheir customer (use Target, which is 2nd largest retailer in 2007; 1400 stores in 47 states) in US,

    Canada, Australia, and UK.

    Knowledge & innovation

    - Method is using a new approach to educate people/consumer about the real definition ofcleanliness, dirty, safety and how to become socially responsible to environment.

    - Innovation on the unique packaging; they want the products can become accessories at homes andnot placed in hidden places so they have their packaging designed by world renowned designer

    Karim Rashid.

    - The innovation of Method product began from Creativity. The creativity flourishes best in aunique kind of social environment. With empathy and care, Eric Ryan and Adam Lowry think

    about this to help the social and environment problem.

    Operation Management

    - Method applies sustainability principles. The firm uses an efficient of fuel and processes. Theyuse it to reduce carbon emissions using biodiesel fleets. And also efficiency in the travel and

    office tools.

    - Method keeps every single operation process with greenskeeping. Starting from choosing theresources, ingredients, packaging, and delivery proses.

    - Method keeps using the sustainable approach into the supplier with giving them incentives toreduce carbon emissions.

    Based on Experience:

    Meilina M., in Pharmaceutical Industry:

    - One of the added values of the company is getting the ISO 14001 certificate and brings the valueinto the corporate strategy. One program in my last experience is getting a program called go

    green that reduces any un-renewable resources that can harmful to people and environment.

    Example: in pharmaceutical company change the alcohol into water based which is similar with

    Method products that qualified to use and certified by ISO 14001 about environment. One of the

    main topic is go green and use something without making any pollution and harmful.

    - Something that began from innovation come into the company goals sometimes gives someadded point which mean business profit. For example the new invention of new drug (the last

    experience) will help people health that can increase the profit of the company. Same with themethod product, this innovation also bring a good things to make a new entrepreneur firm that is

    concern into health and environment

    - This product is so creative. And it also had created a model for excellent in integrating health andenvironment concern into a corporate strategy. They combine a good thing to be a goal of

    corporate strategy

    - With some strength and confidence, they make something impossible to be possible. Similar withour experience use something different which impossible like using a garbage resource to be a

    food supplement and can help human health.

    Rohimat, in Agricultural Industry:

    Seed industry should be sensitive to natural/environment changing. 60% of cultivation result isdepending on environment sensitivity. On horticultural seed product development, the program

    innovation was developed to meet with environment challenges. Starting from 2008, seed

    producer in Indonesia is concern to get seeds which has Gemini virus resistances, and in 2011 our

    company becomes a pioneer who gets that resistance technology in Tomatoes crop. If we see at

    the history of its development, the resistances to Gemini virus can be get by combining selected

    species with normal condition and become a potential F1 hybrid with such resistance. The next

    step is to test the prototype in the market with multi-location system and preferences from people

    as final step to confirm the characteristic and resistance of the seeds.

    Sufian, in Non-Government Organization (NGO):

    Innovation and creativity can be done by evaluating opportunity with ones knowledge(competence) and put the passion into it. Eric Ryan and Adam Lowry discovered opportunity in

    something that they knew which is chemical, especially in household products. The decision they

    made to produce green products and sustainable approach has given great impact to the

    environment, to the people, and to the industries. Relation to my experience, in my place of work

    we choose to serve children as main target to release them from poverty and cut off the poverty

    chain in the next generation. It is the matter of our perspective to see the root of the problems that

    occurred in our social environment and how we are going to take action with everything that wehave mastered (knowledge, information, passion & dream) to achieve the transformational goals.

    Martadinata, in Syariah Banking:

    Innovation has to consider the regulation, which is the basic foundation in banking industry.Customers involvement in the banking process has created innovation products to meet their

    needs and newest market condition with still following the local regulation. Syariah banking

    launched a product called Gadai Emas and found out that the implementation is not as smooth

    as the innovation idea. Gadai emas was dominated previously byPerum Pegadaian but theres

    a law problem about it because of monopoly accusation of this product. Perum Pegadaian was

    claimed to monopoly it since the imperialism era (by the Dutch). Until now, theres no law

    solution (decision) due to the innovation made by other private banks for Gadai Emas products.
