Dear Parents, Carers and Students, December 5, 2019 Advent: a time of anticipation; excitement and waiting as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. I think we have a brighter outlook regarding Advent here in Australia. For half the world, Christmas also falls in the middle of winter - shorter days, longer hours and darkness can be challenging. Our theme for Advent this year at Our Lady’s this year is Let Your Light Shine. In the middle of this festive season, we’re called to be God’s light in the dark places; and that can mean spending time and energy to support others who find this season hard. Where does your light shine this Christmas? Thank you to all families who contributed to our Christmas Hamper appeal and we now have Christmas hampers ready to distribute to families in the Craigieburn area. Class Organization 2020: On Monday, when you receive your child’s report there will also be a letter informing you of your child’s grade and teacher for next year. The school spends a great deal of time organising the class structures and each child’s needs are discussed and considered when selecting classes and teachers. At the end of the day we ask our parent community to support our decisions regarding school organization. On Wednesday 11 th December the children have an opportunity to meet with their 2020 teacher and classmates at the meet the teacher session from 10.30am -11.30am. Birthday wishes to all these children who celebrate their birthday: Noel 3A, Armanita Prep D, Ava 1C, Sophia 2A, Zuri 4M. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL! Learning Celebration Expo: Tuesday 10th December 4:00pm - 7:00pm: This will be a great opportunity for you to come and celebrate your child’s learning with them, as they and their teacher lead you through some interactive activities that showcase how they have worked together to achieve learning goals this year. Our specialist teachers will also have their rooms available for you to experience some of the great learning that happens during these programs. Appointment bookings can be made via Compass. Levies for 2020 - Stationery collection day will occur on Wednesday 11th & Thursday 12th December between 8.00am - 4.30pm. Stationery to be collected from the gymnasium and paid for at the office prior to collection. Thank you to the parents who have already paid for their 2020 levy. The Student Levy for 2020 is $300.00 per student. The receipt is required to be produced when you collect your stationery. Prep & Year 1 stationery packs are to be stored at school - no need to collect….only pay for. Parent Engagement in Learning survey: There is ample research and evidence highlighting the fact that greater parent engagement in children’s schooling leads to improved student outcomes. Please take 5 minutes to fill out the survey around parent engagement in student learning sent to you via COMPASS. We are wanting to listen to parent input in our school community around how parents are engaging with their child's learning outside of school hours. This data will help us plan actions in the future that improve our parent/school relationships around student learning. Your input is extremely valuable.

Time for Change……

Each year children are moved from one class to another with a different class teacher,

different group of children in their class and a different room.

It is normal to feel different emotions when things are

different.

Change can be easy at times and at other times it can be challenging.

It is important that when we find things change challenging, we try different strategies

to cope. Over the past couple of weeks your children will be talking in their class about the

changes and various strategies they can use to make the transition from one year to another a

smooth one.

It is important to look at the positives of this change such as: meet year teachers, learn

from different people.

It is also important to think about and create a positive sense of hope for the year

ahead.

This may be a question you talk about with your child(ren)......‘What are you

looking forward to in 2020 at school?

Gospel Reflection and Challenge MATTHEW 3- 1-12

Living the Gospel – Prepare Ye! John the Baptist’s call to ‘Prepare the way of the Lord’ is a summary of the purpose of the season of Advent. Every year,

as we celebrate the Nativity, we celebrate once again the presence of God in our world. God became incarnate in the world through Jesus but also always was and continues to be incarnate in the world through each person. If we are to

accept this reality and live it out, we need to remind ourselves this Advent to prepare the way for the Lord to be present in and through us every day of our lives.

Gospel challenge for

the week: Be present in the

moment!
