Vision Statement: United in worship, growth and service. Let’s Go Fishing with Pastor Dave I have to say that so far it has been an interesting Spring! Well, almost like Spring in some ways and not so much in others. It has served to remind me that even when we think things are the way they are supposed to be seasonally, in our work, and in our faith, there will always be something that throws what I refer to as the “monkey-wrench” into it. It’s that thing or a string of things that jump up and tighten you up in a way that you never anticipate. I have to admit that at times I don’t always handle it well when it occurs. It is in those times that I find upon reflection later that I didn’t take the time to truly discern the consequences of my choice or choices. I can look back now on many times earlier in my life where that was the common- place. I relied upon my own power, instinct and not thorough thought process. It was at those times where it felt like someone or something had a very large monkey-wrench tightening around me and literally squeezing the life right out of me. The good news is that it doesn’t happen very often now, if at all. Sure there are those moments when I begin to fall back on the “old” me, but in those moments I have been able to recognize the triggers and turn away from them. How, one would ask? It finally came to me through someone else sharing their life experience with me. I have to admit that it was a person that I would never have expected to share in the way that they did. I realized at that moment that my experience was much like an experience in the Bible. In Acts chapter 8, verse 26 and following, we have Philip coming into contact with an Ethiopian Eunuch. It is in that story that I found myself with the person that was sharing their life experience with me. This time of sharing led into a deeper conversation where I realized what was taking place- the Holy Spirit was using this person to help me in a rough time. That’s the good news we have, the promise we have, that God does not leave us alone. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit is with us at all times. It is that Holy spirit that we are to call on at all times to guide us, to encourage us, to comfort us, and to correct us as we live our lives. We begin this month a new season with our Sunday worship service at 9:00 AM. As I said last month, let us all allow the Holy Spirit to guide us through this season of change. I also encourage each of you to reach out to someone and share your story. Who knows, it might just resemble the story of Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch! Shalom- Pastor Dave “The Chimes” June 2018

Let’s Go Fishing with Pastor Dave

I have to say that so far it has been an interesting Spring! Well, almost like Spring in

some ways and not so much in others. It has served to remind me that even when we think

things are the way they are supposed to be seasonally, in our work, and in our faith, there

will always be something that throws what I refer to as the “monkey-wrench” into it. It’s

that thing or a string of things that jump up and tighten you up in a way that you never

anticipate. I have to admit that at times I don’t always handle it well when it occurs. It is in those

times that I find upon reflection later that I didn’t take the time to truly discern the consequences of

my choice or choices. I can look back now on many times earlier in my life where that was the common-

place. I relied upon my own power, instinct and not thorough thought process. It was at those times

where it felt like someone or something had a very large monkey-wrench tightening around me and

literally squeezing the life right out of me. The good news is that it doesn’t happen very often now, if at

all. Sure there are those moments when I begin to fall back on the “old” me, but in those moments I

have been able to recognize the triggers and turn away from them. How, one would ask? It finally came

to me through someone else sharing their life experience with me. I have to admit that it was a person

that I would never have expected to share in the way that they did. I realized at that moment that my

experience was much like an experience in the Bible. In Acts chapter 8, verse 26 and following, we have

Philip coming into contact with an Ethiopian Eunuch. It is in that story that I found myself with the

person that was sharing their life experience with me. This time of sharing led into a deeper

conversation where I realized what was taking place- the Holy Spirit was using this person to help me in

a rough time. That’s the good news we have, the promise we have, that God does not leave us alone. The

Advocate, the Holy Spirit is with us at all times. It is that Holy spirit that we are to call on at all times

to guide us, to encourage us, to comfort us, and to correct us as we live our lives.

We begin this month a new season with our Sunday worship service at 9:00 AM. As I said last month, let

us all allow the Holy Spirit to guide us through this season of change. I also encourage each of you to

reach out to someone and share your story. Who knows, it might just resemble the story of Philip and

the Ethiopian Eunuch!

Shalom- Pastor Dave

FELLOWSHIP TIME-

With the change effective Sunday, June 3rd to one worship service at 9:00 A.M.

there will also be a change in our Fellowship time. After conferring with Marge &

Larry, there will be a time for coffee prior to the worship service and a time for

coffee after the worship service. The big change in this is that it will be coffee

only. Marge & Larry have been blessing us with more than that for several years

and we thank them for that. We are also asking for others to volunteer on a

rotational basis to help with this. If you are willing to serve in this capacity please

contact the office or Marge.

In Christ’s service and love- Pastor Dave

The UMW Unit meeting will be Wednesday, June 13, at the church. Note change of meeting location from handbook. The board meeting will be at 10:30 am. The luncheon will be held at 12:00 pm – Hosting Circle is Miriam. Devotions and Music by Miriam Circle. The program will start at 1 PM with Pledge Service Skit written by Rachel Wood.

“Film, Friends and Faith”

“Finding Forrester” will be this month’s film feature on June 17—the third Sunday evening, when movies are viewed by Friends, Film, and Faith. The film will be shown at 5:00, followed by snack-luck and discussion until about 8 o’clock. The film features a young African-American, who is invited to attend a very exclusive, private high school. Being ‘just a street kid’ and not wanting to call much attention to his ‘background differences’, Jamal portrays himself as a withdrawn student of questionable abilities. Through a natural curiosity Jamal discovers a famous recluse writer, William Forrester, who helps him develop writing skill and self-confidence, which only further threatens Jamal’s academic future without betraying the anonymity of their unlikely bond of friendship and loyalty. For more information or encouragement call Craig Rule at 357-5142 or email at [email protected]. Come, let us fill the room just for the fun of it.
