Ask what sound is heard in the second syllable of each word. Your child has been learning to draw conclusions. After reading a story, discuss whether the characters’ actions make sense. Day 2 Have your child read these words: aunt, bank, basket, collects, favorite, present. Take turns giving clues and guessing the words. Day 3 This week your child has been discussing how to draw conclusions. Make a surprise bag by putting several common objects in a bag (for example a small package of crackers, small sugar or salt packets, marbles, a piece of foam). Have your child put his or her hand in the bag and feel the objects. From the way the objects feel, ask your child to tell you what conclusions can be made about them. Can your child identify the objects? Day 5 Have your child write these spelling words: action, caution, feature, fixture, future, mixture, motion, nation, nature, picture, section, station. Help your child think of ways to use each word to make a sign, such as use caution. Day 4
