Foundation Stage News

This week our Adventurers have been finding different ways to research facts and details about dinosaurs, including learning about

the very long-named eustreptospondylus, as well as enjoying a range of funny dinosaur stories, and collecting natural items to add to

our “Dino-world”. We are also very pleased to see how many of them are able to change their shoes and put on and fasten up their

coats independently – these are great independence skills!

Our Explorers have been making and tasting porridge this week, and are also looking forward to their forthcoming visits to Coop-

lands Bakery, where they are going to study the cake displays and each buy a bun to eat on their return to Nursery. Mrs Taylor has

kindly agreed to stay on and drive the school minibus for each group, as long as she can buy a very sticky bun!

Our Reception children have been thinking particularly hard about teen numbers, and have been having a go at estimating how

many items are in a group before checking them by counting. Young children can find this a very tricky task, as they often want to

count the items, so that they can give the correct number straight away, rather than having a guess and possibly getting something

wrong; however, developing the confidence to test out theories and ideas, and to make and learn from mistakes, is an invaluable

part of the learning process and an essential aspect of developing a growth mindset. We have therefore been very pleased to see

our young pupils becoming increasingly confident in this area.

Swimming Gala On Thursday morning 140 children and staff descended on the beautiful Beverley Road Baths for the school’s annual swimming gala. The children were enthusias-tic and vociferous in their support for each other and their houses and the stand-ard of swimming and competition was high. Too many winners to mention them all but performances from Leo and Aaron Zost Cross, Jessica Beard, Adam Pashby, Annabel Coope and Leon Wilson stood out. Final results were close with the main House Cup going to Venn who beat Marvell by two points in the final count up. Marvell won the House Relay Cup. Mrs Plewes made some extra awards for effort and good sportsmanship in assembly on Friday. These go to Rishan Jeyen-dran, Darcey Harrison, Jonty Wilcox, Lucy Gilson and Phoebe Smith. Well done all and we’ll all be there same time, same place next year.

Rex’s Blog

Rex joined 3SW’s class this week and has been learning all about telling the time. Rex has learned that the minute hand is very exciting as it turns around and around the clock and tells you how many minutes past the hour it is. 3SW have been counting around the clock in intervals of 5 minutes and even counting each individual minute…tricky stuff! Can you tell the time at home? Try it with an ana-logue clock. Remember that the big hand is for the minutes and the short hand tells you the hour.
