BACKGROUND

The Chescat.ttf lettering font

This is a free font and cannot be sold or be part of a commercial product.

This font was created using references from the Internet. It is based on various sources related to Chessie System.

The signature symbol of the Chessie System was its "Ches-C", a large emblem incorporating the outline of the C&O’sfamous "Chessie" the kitten logo. The Ches-C was emblazoned on the front of all Chessie System locomotives, and alsoserved as the "C" in "Chessie System" on the locomotive’s flanks, and on other rolling stock. The Chessie System itself didnot own any locomotives or other rolling stock; rather, equipment would be placed on the roster of one of the threecomponent railroads. While all three companies shared a common paint scheme of yellow, vermillion, and blue, actualownership of the equipment was denoted by the reporting marks C&O, B&O, or WM.

In September 1987, C&O merged into CSX Transportation, a 1986 renaming of the Seaboard System Railroad, and theChessie System name was retired which is the reason for the inclusion of some CSX related items.

DisclaimerThis ttf font is a best effort attempt at recreating a vector based image suite related to Chessie System. Some variancesexist in real life and therefore there may be some discrepancies between what is supplied here and actual prototypereferences.

Font Usage

InstallationThe file is distributed as part of a ZIP file that includes this document as well as the font itself and other relateddocumentation.

The files need to be UNZIPPED from the distribution file into a temporary work area, like C:\TEMP. (I’ll assume that youused c:\temp from here on…)

You can often just double-click the TTF file and the system will provide an install option.

Now you can install the font from the Windows CONTROL PANEL.

Your system may be different, but for Windows 7, you would select START → Settings → Control Panel → FONTS → FILE[pull down] → INSTALL NEW FONT

From here you would select your new file C:\temp\Chescat.ttf

That’s it, the font is installed.

As with all other TTF fonts on your system, the Chescat.ttf file enclosed within the ZIP file belongs in the FONTS folder ofyour windows operating system. This is the only way this file would be useful.
