Seattle Praise the Lord!

April not only brought spring to the Pacific Northwest, but a blessing to KTBW-TV’s Seattle Praise the Lord program.

The theme of our April in-studio program was “What Is God Doing to Empower You to Be a Blessing in the Marketplace?” We need to disciple others, even to the point of being “midwives” or “parents” to them.

Guests included Julaine Smith who felt that God has called her to raise up women in the business world, to help them start and run profitable companies.

Tony Bianco, an on-line marketing executive, said that marketplace Christians should not hide the gifting God has given them.

Phil Cerna, an entrepreneur who has grown a number of business ventures over the past 30 years, considers himself a pastor to business people.

Nelson Yung, a digital marketing strategist, was a “prodigal” who was raised by a single mom and came back to the Lord because of her prayers. “It is important to remember where you came from,” he said. “I once was there, but now I am here.”

Nathalie Armstrong suggested that to reach people for Christ you need to break bread with them, to get into their lives.

Joy in Our Town Guests...

Mike Lonergan, Pierce County Assessor/Treasurer, who explained the property valuation and taxation process. “The government doesn’t want people to lose their homes because of their inability to pay their property tax. We want property owners to pay their fair share, no more and no less.”

Mike Johnson, CEO, Tacoma Rescue Mission. “Most single homeless people have never had the advantages of a loving supportive family. We need to craft a way for them to get back into the community, not through programs but through relationship.”

Dr. Charles Emlet, Professor of Social Work at the University of Washington, Brenda Milewski, Puyallup Area Aging in Community Committee, and Bob Riler, Pierce County Aging Resource Center. “Aging can be a beautiful thing, a wonderful opportunity. Yet there’s often a lack of respect from the younger members of our society.”

We also interviewed former East German Michael Furchert, Christian speaker, writer, pianist and composer, for our Seattle Praise the Lord program. “Growing up behind the Berlin Wall, I learned early to defend my faith in Jesus Christ in a secular society and a socialist educational system.”

Career Fair Station Manager, George Pettingell, and Assistant Chief Engineer, Greg Fredericksen, attended the 2016 Spring

Career Fair April 6th at Seattle Pacific Universi-ty. This was one of SPU’s best career fairs, with 78 businesses participating.

Joy in Our Town interviewer, Debrena Jackson Gandy, is a

member of the Highline Community College Board of

Trustees. The schools won a national award, competing with

over 1,600 community colleges, for exemplary Board/

President Relations.
