Spelling Rules for Plurals of Nouns
Exercise: For each noun, write the rule number and the plural form that follows the rule. Some nouns have
two acceptable plural forms, but you should use the plural spellings that can be verified by these rules.
RULES FOR MAKING NOUNS PLURAL1. Add -s to most nouns without special endings.
2. Add -es to nouns that end in: ch, sh, z, s, ss, x.3. Add -es to nouns that end in a
consonant plus y, change y to i before adding es.

Spelling Rules for Plurals of Nouns
Exercise: For each noun, write the rule number and the plural form that follows the rule. Some nouns have
two acceptable plural forms, but you should use the plural spellings that can be verified by these rules.
