AT&T80 million subscribers

Background

AT&T is the largest telecommunications operator in the United States, with substantial business interests in mobile, fi xed line, IP and broadcast communications. CDRlive was initially implemented in 2004 as a performance measurement solution for Cingular Wireless, but rapidly grew to become the core data warehouse and reporting solution for the Network group. It has since experienced two signifi cant upgrades – once when Cingular bought the AT&T Wireless brand, and then again when AT&T acquired Cingular Wireless – taking it from a system that initially supported 22 million subscribers to one that currently supports over 80 million.

Today, the CDRlive system at AT&T has set new records in terms of size and performance:• The full system comprises 2 x 310 TB production

databases (Oracle 10g) and more than 1.2 Petabytes of raw storage.

• Each site loads an average of 4 billion rows per day (45,000 rows per second) and a peak of 15 billion rows per day (175,000 rows per second) in real time.

Background

Founded in 2001, Unitel is Angola’s largest telecommuni-cations network and exemplifi es the classic, high-growth networks that currently exist within the developing world. While providing voice and data services to more than 5 million subscribers across the country, Unitel has expe-rienced year-on-year growth rates in excess of 50% over the last few years and has relied on CDRlive to scale seamlessly to meet growing and diversifying business demands.

Business Usage

The CDRlive system is used for numerous functions, including network analysis, subscriber analysis, legal and regulatory compliance, revenue assurance, intercon-nect reconciliation and assurance, marketing and sales analysis, fraud control, law enforcement and competitive analysis. The Unitel site is also notable in that the open architecture of both CDRlive as well as the Oracle data-base infrastructure has allowed Unitel to do extensive development on top of the EDW platform. For example, CDRlive is integrated directly with the Unitel customer care system and its call center and numerous custom reports have been developed by the Unitel team on top of CDRlive.
