“Fans and audiences are the best and only real gage of how well the show is going…” says Michelle when asked. “…that’s why I always interact with the audience in all my shows. They are just as much a part of the show as I am, even more, really.” When asked how long she’s been singing, Michelle Crenshaw will usually reply, “all my life” or say “I don’t ever remember not singing.”Which is certainly believable when you observe her going about her day. From the stage to the office to the kitchen, Michelle is just a bubbly melody bobbing about like a “follow-the-bouncing-ball sing along from a 1960’s variety show. That’s just how she is; or rather, that’s just who she is.

“I’ve got a few great projects coming up; a live jazz recording and another Ladies Legends Divas concert entitled Original Diva. I am particularly excited about the jazz recording session at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center (in Leimert Park) that’s scheduled for this summer. It will be my first live jazz recording and my first time performing at BMPAC. Plus, I’ll be singing my favorite genre of music…jazz! The fact that Michelle is an accomplished jazz vocalist doesn’t really surprise you if you’ve ever heard her sing. Her unique jazz style, a sort of lush, bluesy, back-phrased belt reminiscent of the likes of Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington & Billie Holiday, still comes through in most of her Gospel and R&B renditions and recordings. And it is this special blend of rich tones and spontaneous interpretations that makes Michelle the perfect fit for an evening of jazz standards and improvisations.

“ I’m really excited about this summer season of music. It’s been a very creative process preparing for it. Most of all , I’m loving this opportunity to reinvent myself. Now my fans get 3 chances to see the diversity of my repertoire and my abilities.” But actually, Michelle has been singing jazz her whole life, growing up the daughter of William Strickland, a professional jazz singer , turned barber, who fed her a steady dose of music and artistry that Michelle would grow to love , admire and emulate. It was only logical that Michelle would follow in his footsteps and continue a legacy of love for music that she has passed down to her children too! Michelle Crenshaw will debut at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center on June 13th at 8:00 PM. Tickets are available at www.michellecrenshaw.net For more information call: 310-745-6997
