Dear Parents/Carers
Remembering D-Day
It has been a poignant week to recall the dramatic events of June 1944 when 22,342 soldiers from 30 different countries lost their lives in the Battle of Normandy. Who could not be moved by the tales of that time and the amazing veterans? What you might not be aware of is that the person chairing the Normandy Memorial Trust is Lord Peter Ricketts, an Old Veseyan.
Year 7 - 10 Exams
I have been so impressed by the focus, effort and resilience of the students this week. I hope year 7, 8 and 9 have a much deserved and relaxing weekend. Year 10 have done well too, but they still have a few more examinations to prepare for. A word of thanks to the team of staff volunteers who organise exam week: Miss Field, Miss Lamb, Mr Cragg, Mrs Sheargold, Mrs Lynch, Miss Brown and Mrs Parize. Thank you for giving the boys such good preparation for the external exams ahead.
Great Midlands Fun Run 2019
Well done to all Veseyans taking part this year. We are very proud of you. Here are some of our staff participants.
Alumni Music Saturday 22 June 2019
For further details of the forthcoming Alumni Music Night (left) please follow this Link. This inspirational concert is open to all Veseyans, young and old. We have the current Funky Bishops playing, but we also have the amazing OV, Young Musician of the Year Xhosa Cole. Tickets can be purchased from Mrs Foster [email protected]. £10 for adults, £5 for concessions. The list of alumni and student performers is growing day by day, and it should be an excellent event!
Application to study at Bishop Vesey's from September 2020
Registration is now open for entry to Year 7 in September 2020. Please click here for details on how to register for the Grammar Schools of Birmingham entrance test. Please note our Open Evening is on Thursday 27 June 16:00 - 19:00
Jabberwocky Friday 5 July and Saturday 6 July - 7:00pm
Based on the Lewis Carroll poem from Alice through the Looking Glass, this play is a humorous fantasy romp that is lots of fun. It follows the story of Ned, who runs away from home into the forest. After many adventures, he eventually finds himself tasked with killing the Jabberwocky itself, a fearsome monster! If you would like to order tickets for the Lower School production of Jabberwocky at Bishop Vesey’s, please return the form found here, with the appropriate remittance, to Mrs Foster, School Club Office at BVGS, by Friday 21 June. Tickets can still be booked by telephone after this date.
School Games Mark
We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Mark Silver Award for the 2018/19 academic year. The Silver award is the highest recognition we have received in the last decade and we hope to strive for Gold in years to come. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme which rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success. We have had many sporting successes across a variety of disciplines and age groups this year and these successes are complemented by a wide range of leadership opportunities. We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who make our competitions possible. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone associated with sport has been rewarded this year.
