1 John 5:4-12 (NIV)

4  for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome

the world, even our faith. 5  Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes

that Jesus is the Son of God.

6  This is the one who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ. He did not come by

water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7  For there are three that testify:

8  the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9  We accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater

because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son.

10  Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does

not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the

testimony God has given about his Son. 11

 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12  He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

1. Living in Christ.

2. Trusting in Christ.

Colossians 2:8-12 (NIV)

8  See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy,

which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. 9  For in Christ all the fullness of the

Deity lives in bodily form,

10  and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and

authority. 11  In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful

nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done

by Christ,

12  having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the

dead.

3. Only the Holy Spirit can change our hearts.

Colossians 2:16-17 (NIV)

16  Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a

religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17  These are a shadow of the

things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

4. The reality is found in Christ.

Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV)

6  So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7  rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as

you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
