The Monthly Newsletter of FBC Lake Placid f FBC LIFE LINE July 2016 Pastoral Thoughts The queson Im going to start with for this newsleer is what are the most important things and least important things in your life? We have been discussing/ priorizing Jesus in our next steps for a while now. When we come together as the children of God, we as a pastoral staff and worship planning team want to make sure that we are priorizing Jesus in our services, family groups, and other ministry areas. It would seem that the most important thing that we do is meet on Sunday morning. Much planning goes into the services. A worship team prepares music to lead us in praise. A pastor speaks a message from Gods word. We gather for fellowship as well. It takes many people to pull a Sunday off and see that it goes well. We want to experience Gods presence as we worship Him. So, what about family groups? What should be happening and how should they be mulplying? The answer is, at least in part, that we should be growing together in following Jesus (making Him the biggest thing in our lives), and by doing that we would have to mulply. Its easy to not want to mulply. You heard me right. That may sound absurd and maybe we wouldnt want to admit it, but it is easy to keep the same family group forever without ever living out the convicon that we should be doubling and tripling and quadrupling as me goes by. Thats why some of us have been in the same one for years and why we havent grown many new groups. New family group facilitators should be rising up and volunteering from our exisng family groups. LIFE LINE July 2016

Pastoral Thoughts The question I’m going to start with for this newsletter is what are the most important things and least important things in your life? We have been discussing/ prioritizing Jesus in our next steps for a while now. When we come together as the children of God, we as a pastoral staff and worship planning team want to make sure that we are prioritizing Jesus in our services, family groups, and other ministry areas.

It would seem that the most important thing that we do is meet on Sunday morning. Much planning goes into the services. A worship team prepares music to lead us in praise. A pastor speaks a message from God’s word. We gather for fellowship as well. It takes many people to pull a Sunday off and see that it goes well. We want to experience God’s presence as we worship Him.

So, what about family groups? What should be happening and how should they be multiplying? The answer is, at least in part, that we should be growing together in following Jesus (making Him the biggest thing in our lives), and by doing that we would have to multiply. It’s easy to not want to multiply. You heard me right. That may sound absurd and maybe we wouldn’t want to admit it, but it is easy to keep the same family group forever without ever living out the conviction that we should be doubling and tripling and quadrupling as time goes by. That’s why some of us have been in the same one for years and why we haven’t grown many new groups. New family group facilitators should be rising up and volunteering from our existing family groups.

Preschool:

It’s time for one of our favorite themes of all time—Creation Station! We can’t wait for your preschoolers to see the amazing train cars we’ve created for them. Each train car depicts a different day of creation in a fun and imaginative way.

Every week, we will introduce your preschoolers to one day of creation. I’ll let you in on a little secret—when we get to day six, we’ll stay there for two weeks so we can emphasize the special relationship God has designed for us to have with Him.

Pastoral Thoughts Continued . . .

Family groups is our disciple-making engine and the greatest way WE have to build relationships and grow together in practical ways to follow Jesus in faith. WE are a disciple-making church. We are not full of events, concerts, or entertainment. I’m not speaking negatively of those things, it’s just not who we are. We are disciples who are called to make disciples.

Over the next few months you will be hearing more about our fall launch of family groups. If you are a family group leader, you will meet August 13th and hear more about that from Heidi. If you are in a family group, you will be informed from the platform, through videos, and our other communication tools to prepare you for the launch. If you are not in a family group, the fall launch will be a great time, if not earlier to find your space to grow with others.

For now, may we find grace each day for what we are called to and may we feel the conviction that someone needs to hear about our rescue. May we extend our hand to lead them to theirs.

Grace in following,

Pastor Keith

Multiply Youth Ministry:

As I write this we are finishing up our first day at X-Fuge Camp. The theme this year is a great one for our youth group: UNASHAMED.

In a culture that increasingly seems at odds with our faith our youth are having to wrestle like never before with whether they are going to live out their lives unashamed of the gospel. I can't wait to see how this week impacts the youth.

Please be in prayer for them as they settle back into LP and live out their faith UNASHAMED!

Paul von Merveldt, Family Life Pastor

MaxKidz:

For the month of July we will be looking at the life of Paul and learning these truths:

The story of Jesus is for everybody.

The story of Jesus is bigger than every other story.

The story of Jesus changes how I forgive others.

The story of Jesus changes how I see my problems.

The story of Jesus changes how we work together.

Our Memory Verse is Ephesians 2:8. “God’s grace has saved you because of your faith in Christ. Your salvation doesn’t come from anything you do. It is God’s gift.” God’s free gift of grace makes it possible for us to be with Him forever. No matter what we’ve done, we can have faith that Jesus can save us from our sin.

Family Groups

July finds us still enjoying Life Under the Sun - our sermon series in the book of Ecclesiastes. This book of the Bible is proving to provide great topics for discussion & discipleship in our small groups. We are all growing & learning as we discuss Solomon's thoughts on wisdom, the meaning of life, and trusting God in our everyday challenges. If you're not connected to a Family Group, this summer is a great time to jump in. You can find a list of all the groups that meet in our community through-out the week online at www.fbclp.com. Or feel free to call me for information. Heidi Davis, Discipleship & Family Group Coordinator [email protected] /863.441.0037

Wee Center News Summer is in full swing and we are taking a relaxing approach this year. The children will be having splash days and parties. The Elementary also have field trips planned such as bowling and going to the movies. We are participating in the free lunch program again this year provided by the School Board. The meals are delivered to us daily which include breakfast and lunch. The parents enjoy having a break from packing lunches for their children. Thank you for your prayers and support for the Center.
