IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE WE’RE ALREADY IN THE LAST MONTH OF SPRING AND SUMMER IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER. WITH PLENTY OF HOT DAYS IN HIGHFIELDS IN OCTOBER, IT FEELS LIKE WE’VE HAD A TASTE OF SUMMER WEATHER ALREADY.

We were excited to launch our new luxe display homes last month, as well as our new garden-block display homes. It was great to see so many people turn up to view these beautiful homes and see all the extra luxurious details GemLife has incorporated into the designs.

Last month we marked Grandparents Day, which is celebrated across Australia on Sunday, 27 October, by holding our first GemLife Grandparents Day Awards. We had so many wonderful entries from grandkids across all our resorts telling us why they love their grandparents. It was really tough choosing the winners! We had two winning entries from Highfields - I’d like to congratulate Vicki and Angus Lane for winning Best Grandparents and Teresa Kropp for winning Best Grandmother. On behalf of the GemLife team, we hope you and your grandkids enjoy your customised ultimate family experiences.

Yours sincerely,

Adrian Puljich Director & CEO GemLife

The award winners will receive a tailored Ultimate Family Experience, a great opportunity to spend quality family time together.

GemLife received dozens of nominations from grandkids across all of its resorts, making the judges decision a difficult task.

“GemLife would like to thank all the gorgeous grandkids who took the time to nominate their grandies for the competition,“ said Adrian Puljich, GemLife CEO and Director.

THE HIGHFIELDS GEM NOVEMBER 2019

Best Grandmother Teresa Kropp, GemLife Highfields (nominated by Archie, Kai, Oillie, Indie, Finn & Leo)

Why do you love your Grandmother?

Grandma makes the best chocolate slice. We love her cuddles and waking her up early when she sleeps over. Thanks for everything you do for us.

Best Grandparents Angus & Vicki Lane, GemLife Highfields (nominated by Charlie)

Why do you love your Grandparents?

My Ma and Pop are so much fun. They bring me to the shops, cinema, bowling alley and the pool. I love them because they give me hugs and kisses. Me and my sisters stay at GemLife while mum and dad are away and they get us kids pizza. When I woke up on Father’s Day I gave Pop M&Ms and he gave us some. That’s why I love them.

Best Grandfather Ted Wojtylak, GemLife Woodend (nominated by Sophie, Rex, Xavier, Eve & Heath)

Why do you love your Grandfather?

Sophie: “Takes us on walks, makes drinks and cuts up fruit.

Rex: “Has lollies and makes great noodles.”

Xavier: “Takes us to the park and reads bedtime stories.”

The day was a huge success, generating record-breaking sales and uniformly positive feedback from guests.

GemLife Sales & Marketing Director, Andrew Coulter, said visitors were impressed by the exclusive luxe home features.

“All the guests I spoke with commented on how beautiful the homes were,” he said.

The luxe home designs boast soaring ultra-high ceilings, stylish new timber-look flooring and designer pendant lighting.

“I love how spacious the new luxe homes are, the

high ceilings are gorgeous and the beautiful pendant

lighting over the island benches gives the homes an

extra elegant touch,” said one guest.

While at the resort, attendees also took the

opportunity to explore Highfields’ award-winning

country club, and its first-class facilities.

RESIDENTS’ PROFILE

AT OVER-50s LIFESTYLE RESORT

Being able to lock-up and go when adventure calls, without worrying about security or maintenance, has seen the pair pursuing their passion for travel with gusto. Most recently, the Souters returned from a once-in-a-lifetime cruise along the spectacular, pristine coastline of the Kimberley region in far northern Western Australia - their third visit to the area, though their first time by boat, giving them a unique view of this ruggedly beautiful part of Australia.

The couple boarded a fourteen-day eco-cruise in Darwin after a month-long caravan drive from their GemLife Highfields’ home. One of the world’s last wilderness frontiers, the Kimberley is famed for its majestic canyons, ancient Aboriginal rock art and abundant wildlife, including the top end’s iconic saltwater crocodiles.

“The scenery is stunning. The colours and rock formations are spectacular. It’s so clean and pristine. There’s no rubbish or plastic bags, no graffiti,” said Barbara.

The cruise included a helicopter flight over the breath-taking four-tiered Mitchell Falls, one of Australia’s most remote and impressive waterfalls, as well as bonfires on remote beaches and, of course, incredible fishing.

A trip highlight, according to the Souters, was the Montgomery Reef, a 300-kilometre coral reef that creates a cascading waterfall from its highest point due to 10-metre tidal variations. The reef’s channels are navigable by boat - the couple was able to see the reef and its marine life up-close, including sea turtles, a mother whale with calf, and plenty of sharks.

Other top highlights included the Horizontal Falls, a rare natural phenomenon created by powerful currents forced through two narrow gorges, and an incredible array of ancient Aboriginal rock art, including rare petroglyphs, a type of rock etching.

“The scale of the country is massive - nothing beats the huge, wide-open spaces and beauty of the landscape,” said Ian.
