Efficient Alternative Energy at Sustainable Savings

Cogeneration

What isCogeneration?

How IC (Internal Combustion) Cogeneration Works

Co-Generation is a form of cleaner, higher-efficiency alternative energy wherein waste heat from the combustion process is utilized for other purposes - to heat a building, for example. Other uses for the heat (thermal) can be for hot water, steam, and cooling (hot water fired absorption chillers). Cogeneration can achieve up to 89% combined efficiency versus electric power plants, which are usually about 26% efficient.

* depending on existing rates and how financing is structured.

A reciprocating engine runs a generator that produces electricity. Hot water from the engine jacket and exhaust gas heat are then recovered through an exhaust gas heat exchanger and utilized for hot water. This hot water can be used for heating and/or cooling. If steam is required, the exhaust gas heat exchanger is removed, and the exhaust gases from the combustion process are diverted into a steam generator. The hot water from the engine jacket can be either be used to pre-heat condensate return, or for lower-temperature hot water applications.

Reduce high energy costs Traditional utility escalators are as high as 3% annually. Cogen provides an opportunity to save 20%-40%* by lowering and fix-rating your energy costs.

Lower carbon emissions Be part of the global movement for cleaner, more efficient energy sources.

On-site distributed generation allows you to be less dependent on the utility company and helps control long term energy cost.

Potential rebates and government subsidies – many projects will be eligible for state/federal incentive programs and/or tax benefits.

• Reliable - Designed to provide prime power 24/7

• Highly Efficient - Generating platform’s efficiency ensures the maximum conversion of fuel spent into useful power

• Environmentally Friendly - Low emissions system design meets the strictest air quality standards anywhere in the world and lowers your existing carbon footprint

• Quiet Operations - With a low noise sound attenuated design, cogeneration units won’t disturb neighbors, customers, or your business

• Thermal Heat - Designed for maximum heat recovery, cogeneration units will maximize the thermal energy delivered to your facility

• Absorption Chilling - Systems integrated with absorption chillers will deliver chilled water for most cooling applications

• Remote Control - Secure remote access controls ensure performance, availability, and protection

• Multi-Fuel- options are natural gas, syn gas, propane, biogas and diesel

The best applications for Co-Gen are facilities with 24/7 electrical and thermal demand for Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP).

What are the Best Applications for Cogen?

The Cogeneration Platform

• Why Not Use Cogen Everywhere? The amount of electrical produced by the cogen unit needs to be balanced by utilization of the thermal heat produced. Utilizing the thermal heat produced is the key to a successful co-generation plant.

• How Do I Know if Cogen is for Me? A detailed energy usage analysis will provide data to determine if cogen is applicable. Additionally, you may be able to further increase your savings by taking advantage of tax benefits or government and utility subsidies that may be available.
