WHAT IS LEADERSHIP, AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Wed have to say that leadership means that you are willing to take on responsibility and

make choices for yourself. Its not a responsibility that was thrust upon you by someone,

but a responsibility that you took upon yourself because you believe that you are the best

man or woman for the job. And once you make this choice for yourself you automatically

have no other option but to become a leader.

And another great point about leadership is that an effective leader needs to be able to

create more leaders on his or her team. You want to be able to have the people following

you stand up and get noticed so they in turn have other people following them while a

chain of responsibility and cohesiveness forms so you create a well oiled machine.

Another trait that helps define the question what is leadership?, is that a leader needs to

possess the ability to see certain things that others cant.

A leader has to be a visionary because it takes someone of this magnitude to be able to

shape the world in the image that they believe it needs to be changed into.

One example of an incredible leader who possessed a vision further than most people

could ever imagine going is Christopher Columbus. He dreamed of another world and

believed it so strongly that he stood up to so much criticism and doubt that its surprising

that he followed through with his adventure to the Americas. Thats the definition of a

strong leader in my opinion. Someone who can grow a thick skin and let all of the

criticisms that people had about his plans just bounce right off of him while he stayed

focused on his goal and never faltered.

Most people often feel like they are threatened when they think about what is leadership.

They get scared when somebody stands out in the crowd and does things that are

different from the norm. Because thats what happens when you are leader. You stand

out instead of blending in and that really scares people sometimes.

Another excellent quality that defines what is leadership is that a leader usually has a

strong opinion but they always stick to it. They do not compromise and they dont lose

focus either. Its important to keep your head in the game when you are an effective

leader, so you cant lose focus at any time or your competitor will take advantage of you

and feed off of your mishaps. You certainly dont want that to happen when you are the

captain of the ship so to speak. You have to bring your A game every day when you step

up and take charge in a leadership role. Theres no room for slacking off and theres no

room for making too many mistakes.

    LEADERSHIP QUALITIES?

People aren't born with strong leadership

qualities for the most part, although you may

think that there are natural born leaders in this

    When discussing leadership qualities, please

recognize that a person in a position of

leadership possesses the power to influence as

well as motivate all of the people around him

or her. You can nudge people in the right direction to control their activities so they help

the team achieve the desired goals that they are going after. That's why having strong

leadership qualities is so important when you take on a position like this. You have to be

able to walk your talk and lead a group of people all away to their final goals.

As far as leadership qualities are concerned, all of the words that are spoken by a leader,

as well as the actions that are taken on behalf of a leader, will present a message to your

people that they will learn from and emulate. So you need to make sure you are speaking

the correct words and completing the correct actions if you want your team to grow from

    your positive image.

People aren't born with strong leadership qualities for the most part, although you

may think that there are natural born leaders in this world

These people learn how to become effective leaders through trial and error, as well as

through all of the experiences that they have lived all throughout their lifetime. So, if you

are new to leadership, you should recognize that you will learn the correct leadership

qualities over time and you aren't expected to know everything there is to know about

leadership right from the get-go. If you can handle pressure and input from a lot of

sources then the rest of the necessary leadership abilities you need to possess will

eventually fall into place on their own. Leaders aren't born. They are made. So if you

want to be an effective leader you need to make yourself into one as best you can.

One of the best leadership qualities to have is to follow a practical approach toward

    problem solving

It also doesn't hurt to be able to exhibit patience and courage in the face of adversity. And

don't worry if you make a mistake. Other excellent leadership qualities are the ability to

bounce back from our mistakes and move forward without letting our setbacks slow us

down. It's very courageous to be able to own up to the mistakes we make and it is an

excellent leadership quality to possess. Your team will respect you a whole lot more and

they won't be upset about the mistake. They will actually end up appreciating you more

because you are willing to learn from your mistakes and move on.

Becoming a visionary is also one of the best leadership qualities to possess today. It's

important to have a strong vision which you will pass on to your team members so you

will have something to shoot for in the future. Another excellent thing to be able to do as

a leader is to have the ability to motivate yourself to move forward through any

challenge. This is one of my favorite leadership qualities and something that I believe

all highly successful leaders must possess.

    Leadership Traits?

Most leaders usually possess a lot of the same

leadership traits and qualities. The characteristics that a

leader possesses will vary among each one, and you will

see more leadership traits in some leaders then you will in

others. But not all of the characteristics of a leader will be

present at all times. A lot of the time certain

characteristics only show up when a particular leadership role is called into action. Plus

some leaders are much stronger in certain areas than others, but do not doubt whatsoever

that most leaders share a common bond and set of skills that allow them to accomplish

their day-to-day tasks efficiently and effectively.

One of the strongest leadership traits that I know is the ability to make decisions properly

All of the best leaders in the world are able to make the tough decisions that others can't

and they are willing to handle the responsibility of whatever outcome takes place. So,

even though you have to take responsibility for your failures, you will also be the first

and highest rewarded member of a team that succeeds. There's always going to be a

positive side and a negative side to any new endeavor, and the high-quality leader will

possess the leadership traits that allow them and their team to succeed in these specific

types of situations when they arise.

Another one of the leadership traits that I admire the most is a leaders ability to be

    humble

Even though a leader is the head of a team, it doesn't mean that he or she should take all

of the credit when success is achieved. A really strong leader knows that success only

comes from the group effort and each individual plays a part in the total success of the

group. There aren't any superstars that should stand out above the crowd and that's

especially true when it comes to the person who is in the leadership role. Most people

want to focus on the leader as the hero of the group, but a strong leader will be humble in

the face of this experience and divide the accolades among all of the members of his

team instead of taking them on for himself or herself.

One thing that people don't always realize is that leadership traits can be developed in a

person who wants to become a leader. It is very possible for you to learn all of the

leadership traits you will need to succeed as a leader in a group situation. You can

practice any leadership qualities that you want to become better at and you can hone your

skills by studying the other great leaders of your era and learn from them and what they

did in order to achieve massive success on whatever scale that they were able to achieve

    it.

Most entrepreneurs are leaders at heart and they will develop and grow into high quality

leaders when the time is right. If you are a blooming entrepreneur then you need to begin

to study and implement all of the leadership traits that will eventually make both you

and your team a major success.

    SHORT HISTORY:

On March 15, 1959, they gathered on the terrace of their building and started with the

production of 4 packets of Papads. They started selling the papads to a known merchant

in Bhuleshwar. From the beginning, the women had decided that they would not

approach anyone for donations or help, even if the organization incurred losses.

Chaganlal Karamsi Parekh, popularly known as Chaganbapa, became their guide.

Initially, the women were making two different qualities of papads, in order to sell the

inferior one at a cheaper rate. Chaganbapa advised them to make a standard papad and

asked them never to compromise on quality. He emphasized to them the importance of

running it as a business enterprise and maintaining proper accounts.

In 1962, the name Lijjat (Gujarati for "tasty") was chosen by the group for its products.

The name was suggested by Dhirajben Ruparel, was chosen in a contest held for the

purpose, with prize money of Rs. 5. The organization was named Shri Mahila Griha

Udyog Lijjat Papad. In many Indian languages, Mahila means women, Griha means

home, Udyogmeans industry. By 1962-63, its annual sales of papads touched Rs. 1.82

    lakh.

In July 1966, Lijjat registered itself as a society under the Societies Registration Act

1860[. In the same month, on Chaganbapa's recommendation, U N Deodhar, the

chairman of KVIC personally inspected the Lijjat. KVIC or Khadi Development and

Village Industries Commission is a statutory body set up by the Government of India for

development of rural industries. In September 1966, KVIC formally recognized Lijjat as

a unit belonging to the "processing of cereals and pulses industry group" under the Khadi

and Village Industries Act. It was also recognized as a "village industry". In 1966, KVIC

granted it a working capital of Rs. 8 lakhs (0.8 million) and was allowed certain tax

    exemptions

The first branch outside Maharashtra was established at Valod, Gujarat in 1968. After

tasting tremendous success with their papads, Lijjat began producing other products likekhakhra (1974), masala (1976), vadi, wheat atta, and bakery products (1979). In 1970s,

Lijjat set up flour mills(1975), printing division (1977) and polypropylene packing

division (1978). The group also initiated some unsuccessful ventures such as cottage

leather (1979), matches (1979), and agarbattis (incense sticks

In 1985, the Lijjat branch at Jabalpurwas taken over by one Shantilal Shah as his own

unit, which he ran with the help of a Sanchalika (branch head), who was wife of his

employee. Lijjat went through tremendous pressures and court stay orders to retrieve the

    situation

In 1987, Lijjat purchased new premises at Kamal Apartments in Bandra, a suburb of

Mumbai. The registered office shifted to the Bandra with effect from July 1988. In 1988,

Lijjat entered the soap market with Sasa detergent and soap. Sasa had annual sales of Rs

500 million, accounting for 17 percent of Lijjat's total turnover in 1998. In March 1996,

the 50th branch of Lijjat was inaugrated in Mumbai

In the 1980s and 1990s, Lijjat started attracted attention of foreign visitors and officials. The Vice-President of Uganda, Dr. Speciosa Wandira-Kasibwe, visited Lijjat's central

started exporting its products with the help of merchant importers in the United

Kingdom, the United States, the Middle East, Singapore, the Netherlands Thailand, and

other countries. Its annual exports accounted for more than US$ 3.2 million in 2009. As

its popularity grow, Lijjat started facing the problem of fake Lijjat papads being

introduced in the market. In June 2001, three persons were arrested in this connection, in

Bihar. Lijjat's website explains the identification features of original Lijjat papads
