How the FRS worksSlurryentersthecentralfeedtube(1)belowwaterlevel,wheretheflowisdirectedtowardsasubmergedanti-turbulencebaffle(2).Thisbaffleextendsabovethewaterlevelandovercomesincomingturbulence.Outsidethisanti-turbulencebaffle,thewaterflowsgentlyoutwardstothesurroundingweir(3)andoverflowsintothecollectinglaunder(4).

Thesumpistaperedtowardsthebaseandisconstructedwitharemovabletake-offbox(5)forconnectiontoadischargepump.Thisboxalsoprovidesaconnectionforinjection/flushingwateranda‘dump’branch.

AllinternalwearareasarelinedwithLinatex®premiumrubberasstandard,butliningcompoundscanbeindividuallytailoredtosuitprocessconditions.

BenefitsPump Protection:Inaflatbottomsumportank,solidsbuildupinaheap,thenslump.Thiscausesaslugofsandtoenterthepumpsuction,overloadingthepump.Inextremecases,itcancausethepumpmotortooverloadandtrip.

Easy Re-starting:Ifaplantisstoppedwithoutflushing(emergenciesorpooroperation),solidscansettleinanormaltankandchokethepump.ThedesignoftheLinatex®feedregulatingsumpminimisestheriskofchoking.

Constant Pump Density:Eveninminorcases,theheap/slumpprocesscausesafluctuatingfeeddensitytothecyclone/separator,whichleadstovariableproduct.Linatex®feedregulatingsumpseliminatethisproblem.

No Need for Variable Speed Pumps or Level Control:TheLinatex®feedregulatingsump,withitsconstantoverflowheight,givesaconstantsuctionheadforthepump.Thisminimisessurges,eliminatingtheneedforvariablespeeddrivesorcomplexlevelcontrols.

Cyclone Feed Dilution:Cyclonesoperatemoreefficientlywithadilutedfeed.Separatorsoperatebestatafeeddensityof<25%solidsbymass.ByfeedingpartofthecycloneoverflowbacktotheLinatex®feedregulatingsump,inaclosedcircuit,anydesiredseparatorfeeddensitycanbeachievedwithoutaddingdilutionwater,andaconstantfeedpressurecanthereforebemaintainedinthecyclone.

Turbulence:Apipedischargingintoasumpcantakeentrainedairwellbelowthesurfaceandintothepumpsuction.Suchentrainedaircancausemanyprocessproblemswiththepumpandthecycloneandcanevenleadtopipedamage.TheLinatex®feedregulatingsumpdeflectorplateandfeedwelleliminatetheseproblems.

SelectionSumpsareusuallysizedbyconsiderationofthetotalinputintothecentralfeedtube,includinganycycloneoverflowreturnifapplicable.Otherconsiderationsincludethevelocityofapproachtotheweir,thepercentageofslimesintheeffluentandtheoverflowvolumetobeaccommodated.ThetablebelowshowsLinatex®standardsumpsizesandrespectivecapacities,butsumpscanalsobespecificallydesignedtosuitifrequired.
