Love Life Love Music

Lincolnshire Music Service provides high quality music opportunities for children and young people within the county. We are also the lead organisation of the award winning Lincolnshire Music Education Hub which is a group of organisations working together to create a joined-up approach to music education. Music Education Hubs receive central Department for Education funding which is brokered and managed by Arts Council England.

LMS believes in Making Music Matter in Lincolnshire and that EVERY child should have access to a breadth of opportunities regardless of circumstance or background. We offer music tuition, support and events in a broad range of styles and genres.

About UsOur flexible Music Membership offers increased savings, partnerships and high quality opportunities to help schools achieve a broad and balanced curriculum. It ensures musical progression for every child and supports and meets the needs of the new Ofsted framework.

2020/2021 has been a challenging time for all however LMS has responded quickly to changing guidance and worked in partnership with schools to offer flexible solutions to enable continuity of learning. Clearly, we hope that by the start of the new academic year 2021/22 COVID-19 will no longer be an issue, but, should restrictions return, LMS will once again adapt and work with all partners to find solutions which support schools’ and pupils’ differing needs.

Due to COVID19, online learning has become very popular during 2020/2021 with over 1200 young people accessing weekly LMS DigiTeach since March 2020, making instrumental tuition accessible and fun!

LMS DigiTeach utilises the latest technology to offer online teaching of a musical instrument.

Lessons will be undertaken by fully DBS - cleared tutors who will help and support the pupil to achieve the best results possible. We believe that a completely digital delivery wouldn’t build the dynamic teacher/pupil relationship needed for accelerated instrumental learning. We stipulate that two out of every six lessons are delivered face to face in school with the remaining four lessons taking place remotely via Google Hangouts or Zoom.

Face to face lessons are the gold standard of instrumental and vocal tuition. However, there may be circumstances in which they are difficult to deliver (for example,  if just one pupil wishes to have tuition in a geographically remote school). It is then that DigiTeach can enable learning to take place. It will never replace in person teaching entirely, but a blend of face to face and online lessons is a very positive solution when weekly in person lessons are impractical

Impact and Progression of Instrumental Tuition

Music CentrePartnershipPrice £300News: Increased investment by LMS to support Music Centre activity through extended rehearsals weeks during 2021/2022!Music Centres provide out of school music making opportunities, introducing children and young people of all abilities to ensemble playing in a fun, safe and relaxed atmosphere.

The Music Centres meet weekly during term time at venues across the county, delivering ensembles in a number of different genres and styles.

Joining a Music Centre helps to broaden a child’s social network, with rehearsals becoming fun, social occasions. For most children learning an instrument is much more enjoyable when they join together with other young musicians

Membership is open to everyone who sings or plays an instrument, regardless of whether they learn with a Music Service teacher or privately.

Did you know that schools can become a Music Centre Partner? Being a partner allows the children and young people at your school to access Music Centre for FREE!

County GroupsOur fabulous county groups have explored and performed exciting repertoire including orchestral masterpieces and contemporary works. Members are challenged to develop as musicians, but also to make new friends and have fun.

The 2020/21 season saw a new development due to COVID19, with County Groups going digital. We took this opportunity to try

something new. Not only did we perform digitally but we looked at our repertoire, performing video games music, music composed by black and ethnically diverse composers, and a new composition developed from ideas created by our own musicians during on-line workshops.

We also partnered with Chineke! Orchestra, Europe’s first black and ethnically diverse

orchestra, working with some amazing professional musicians.

The 2021/22 season will be live! You will work with our professionally skilled and experienced, DBS cleared tutors who are passionate about supporting children and young people along their musical journey.

All new members are required to submit a recorded audition on-line. For more details and to apply click here:

Care of theSpeaking Voice

Teachers are professional voice users but unlike actors, for example, very rarely receive any training or guidance on how to use their voices to best effect or how to avoid vocal problems.

Teachers are at least eight times more likely to suffer from voice problems than other workers, with potentially serious career consequences. This twilight session, which can also be delivered as part of a training day, focuses on voice-saving techniques, early warning signs, vocal effectiveness and dealing with infections and tiredness.

Participants will have:

1. Improved confidence to support and care for their speaking voice.

2. Increased ability to use their voices effectively.

3. Ability to recognise early warning signs.

4. Gained an insight into the mechanism and use of the speaking voice.

5. Advice on using the voice healthily.

Cost Care of the Speaking Voice£250 per session

Accelerate!™ is an innovative programme which uses the power of music to boost literacy and language, social skills and confidence in children who are identified as needing support.

A growing body of evidence, based upon leading-edge psychoneurological research, shows a link between dyslexia and a poor sense of rhythm.

Accelerate!™ addresses this in an enjoyable way through singing, chanting and the playing of African djembe drums. Activities are carefully structured and focus particularly on phonemic awareness.

Envisaged initially as support for children with dyslexia, the programme has proved also to be beneficial for those with Speech and Language difficulties or ESL, and with more general individual needs. Rhythmic skills are targeted through drumming, which also develops coordination and social skills.

Singing has proven benefits for language development, memory and wellbeing. Both drumming and singing teach phonological awareness and enhance self-confidence.

The programme is very flexible and can be tailored for use with ages 6-12 (or for older children with Severe Learning Difficulties). We offer six week programmes working with children, or CPD training for school staff, all delivered by specialist tutors.

Cost: £45 per hour
