Principal’s Message
Roofing Work
The roofing work is
progressing well and
the K-2 Toilet roof is
now complete. It
looks neat and tidy.
The Year 1 Block is
looking great with
the new roof
sheeting and the
replacement of the
guttering and
downpipes has
begun. The awnings
will also be replaced
as part of this
project.
As you can see from
the photos below,
the scaffolding has
been erected and
work has begun on B
Block. It will take at
least two weeks. In
the meantime, seven
classes have moved
to temporary classrooms. I
commend the students and staff
on their resilience and the manner
in which they have
adapted to
continue their
teaching and
learning programs.
Well done!
Entrance to this
building (bottom
floor only) is now
via the stairs near
the hall. Clothing
Pool is open for
on-site trading.

COVID-19 Restrictions – Advice for Families
Please see the updated guidelines via the link below for restrictions regarding travel to Victoria and follow
them accordingly if you are affected. Information is also available about how we can attend school in a
COVID safe way.

School Activities returning
As restrictions continue to ease for school activities, we have thoroughly enjoyed having our musicians
performing live at assemblies and events. More performances have been planned. We are aiming to have
our first Lindfield Blue Assembly with parents/carers in attendance and a live musical performance in Week
10 on Tuesday 22 June. Our annual Grandparent’s Day/Open Day has been scheduled for Wednesday 28
July. More details will be provided closer to the day. All events however are subject to change at the last
minute if COVID-19 restrictions are updated. We must comply with all safety and sign on procedures,
physical distancing and hygiene requirements as well as number limitations if necessary.
KSP Year 4 Girls in Mathematics
On Monday morning, 47 Year 4 girls from Lindfield,
Roseville and Gordon East Public Schools met at Killara
High School with the aim of developing an understanding of
fractals. Many Killara High students gave up their own
mathematics lesson to assist these primary school students
in their activities. The lesson began with the Year 4 students
creating smaller triangles within a larger
triangle, working to weave an intricate
pattern. During these activities the
primary school students formed bonds
with their high school counterparts who
shared their knowledge of geometry. The primary school students displayed teamwork
and leadership, helping their friends who found the task confusing or difficult.
Later, the Year 4 girls were instructed to create individual tetrahedrons that when
compiled formed a large complex tetrahedron. Although the use of marshmallows and
toothpicks to create three-dimensional shapes is unconventional, the primary school
students found the lesson exciting as they worked ‘hands on’ with their classmates.

Killara Schools Partnership - Year 3 Science Workshop
On Tuesday 25 June, Year 3 students from Lindfield Public School, Killara Public School and Beaumont
Public School, were welcomed into the newest Science classrooms at Killara High School. After a quick safety
briefing and an introduction to some of the Killara High School student helpers, they dove into a series of
experiments. First, students watched a demonstration (from a safe distance) of green fire shooting from a
large flask, in an instant it was gone. After which, many called for it to be done again. This time, most of the
oxygen in the flask had been consumed, so instead of a dramatic flash there was a gentle flame hovering in
the neck of the flask for a few seconds. Next, they made lava lamps in long cylindrical jars using vegetable
oil, water, food colouring and antacid tablets. Coloured bubbles rose from the bottom and hovered in the
middle of the vessel, before falling back into the coloured mass at the bottom. For many students this was
their favourite activity of the day. Finally, they constructed electric mazes using copper wire. Students learned
that electricity needs a closed circuit to flow as they tried to navigate the maze without touching the side and
switching on a lamp. The fastest time was four seconds, but most students managed it in under 20 seconds.
The students impressed us with their enthusiasm and diligence.

Concert Band Performance - Cromehurst School
Last Thursday the Concert Band made their long awaited return with a performance at Cromehurst School,
Lindfield. Students played a number of pieces including ‘Arabian Dream’ and ‘Frozen’. From all reports the
music was wonderful and thoroughly enjoyed by Cromehurst students. As always the Band was expertly
conducted by Miss Megan Lipworth. Students were accompanied by some of our Stage 3 teachers: Mr
Katrak, Miss Avis and Miss Stanley. Our students demonstrated the ROAR expectations and were great
ambassadors for our school.
K-2 Assembly
The teachers in K-2 couldn't be more proud of their students who displayed some of their best assembly
manners aon Thursday last week. Students proudly sang the School Song and National Anthem - even
though our Kindergarten students are still learning the words. Congratulations to these students who
received assembly and Gold awards and to KB for receiving Lindfield Lion.
Fishermans Beach Excursion
Today was the turn of 3F, 4C and 4H to attend The Coastal Environment Centre, Collaroy. As we go to print
we are being told that students were beautifully well behaved and showed all of the ROAR expectations
while representing our school. What a wonderful place to have fruito!

following:
• Free online and face-to-face training.
• Available to teach at school EVERY Tuesday 10:30am – 11:00am
during term time for the remainder of the school year.

Walking Through the Staff Carpark
We would like to remind parents that the Pacific Highway staff
carpark is not to be used as a thoroughfare to walk children in and
out of the school. There are gates leading out to the highway near
the flagpole and through Ginkgo. It has also come to our attention
that children are running across Gladstone Parade to meet their
parents in Seven Eleven. It is advised that parents accompany
their children across busy roads for their safety.
Students Who ROAR
Lydia P (1CD)
Lydia is a responsible member of 1CD who takes great pride in the quality and
presentation of her work. She always follows school expectations and shows
kindness to all.
‘My favourite thing about LPS is that there are nice teachers and I have a nice
class.’
Amy B (4M)
Amy is a thoughtful and caring student who works hard and enjoys many aspects
of school life. She greatly enjoys reading groups and all creative activities.
‘Having a growth mindset means showing resilience and not stopping doing
something just because it’s hard. Recently I was struggling with some origami I
was doing, so I looked up videos and then learned how to do it right!’

Please ensure all children with anaphylaxis and other medical
conditions hand in their updated Action Plans. Kindly ask your
doctors to sign, stamp and date them. The school needs to
receive a coloured copy of the Action Plan for our health

Work on Display
Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School At Lindfield Public School in 2021, we have a small number of children who could have a potentially life
threatening allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.
How can parents help these children?
• Choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. Inform your child that
these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.
• Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.
Please note, no students are allowed to bring
glass bottles to school for safety reasons.

Sport
Jaiden S last week attended the State Trials for PSSA Hockey.
Congratulations Jaiden!
It was an honour to represent LPS at the 2021 PSSA State Hockey carnival last week. I played in the
Sydney North Area team with players from schools across the North Shore all the way up to the Central
Coast. There were 16 teams in the competition and in our pool we were up against some very tough
opponents including Sydney East, Polding and North West. We played against CIS on the final day and
secured 9th spot overall.
It was a great three days and the tournament was played in a very good spirit by all participants.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent our school and Sydney North Area.

Temporary changes to the Library
Our Library has now become a temporary shared learning space for 3F and 3R until the roofing project
for B block is complete. Therefore, all Library lessons are being held in classrooms until these classes
can return to their normal rooms. It has meant we have also had to make the necessary logistical
decision to cancel borrowing at this time. The Teacher Librarians will be collecting any returns each
lesson while in the classroom. It is not necessary to drop off books to the Library as we would like to
minimise any disruptions to 3F and 3R and their teachers. We appreciate your understanding at this
time.
Please take this opportunity to explore your local council libraries!

Chess
Deep in the Chess Bunker maps are out and schemes are hatched. How, oh how, do we spread the word of
Lindfield to the Upper North Shore? Ah ha! We shall send our representatives to pacify the natives. One
group to Berowra Heights, another to Abbotsleigh. But I think we need two for Grammar..... that should do it!
Round 5 of the JCL Weekly Competition was held last Friday in chilly weather and all was quiet on the home
front as most of our teams went travelling.
A rather unusual situation occurred at Grammar, as our A's played their games and it was decided that they
needed clocks and a second round of games were played, with different results. On query, the first set of
results were reinstated. Our thanks to Grammar for reviewing the situation. We have clearly not, ipso facto,
entered a new age of post modern chess tournament where results can be arbitrarily determined based on
what could or would or should have occurred! Meanwhile, our C’s also did quite well against the top team in
their competition (pictured), while our E's had their first setback.
Lindfield A played Sydney Grammar B for a 3.5-0.5 win (aggregate 12-8)
Lindfield B played Lindfield East E for a 3-1 win (15.5-4.5)
Lindfield C played Sydney Grammar D for a 2-2 draw (9-11)
Lindfield D played Lindfield East C for a 4-0 win (13-7)
Lindfield E played Abbotsleigh A for a 2-2 draw (16.5-3.5)
Lindfield F played St Bernards Berowra Heights for a 2.5-1.5 win (11.5-8.5)
This week at Home we have Lindfield A v Sydney Grammar C, Lindfield C v West Pymble A, Lindfield E v
Abbotsleigh C, Lindfield F v West Pymble B. Traveling we have Lindfield B v Newington B, Lindfield D v
Lindfield East E. Good luck teams!
