Typographic Argument: Final Proposal Concept: I decided to do my project on food waste, because it is something that I hate seeing. Thinking about the amount of food that consumers waste in developped countries is just unfair to people who are starving in the world. Aims: I want to bring awareness to choices that consumers make about their food waste. As a result, I will hopefully change the way consumers act to have a less negative impact on the world. Description: I will make an interactive website in the form of a menu with text and pictures/graphics. It will have several pages that the consumer can flip through like a book. The menu will be seperated into different sections: appetizers, soups, salads, main courses, desserts and beverages. Each section will represent a step in the food production chain: agriculture, processing, retails, supermarkets, restaurants and consumers. For each step, I will do an infographic style to showcase statistics and relevant information on food waste. After each food waste page or on the page next to it, there will be a hunger page. This way, I will emphasize the contrast of food waste and hunger to make a stronger argument. So as the user flip through the pages, he will have a better understanding of the issue and the unfairness. Apart from the food waste and hunger statistics, I might add tips on how to waste less food; this section could be added on the side of the page or as a special of the day dishes. Selected texts: Food waste statistics: http://globalnews.ca/news/293299/by-the-numbers-food-waste/ Hunger statistics: http://www.wfp.org/hunger/stats I will also add more statistics later on. Technological approach: website coding: HTML, CSS, JQUERY graphics: Photoshop, Illustrator References (examples of how my website will function): http://tympanus.net/Development/FlipboardPageLayout/ http://tympanus.net/Tutorials/MoleskineNotebook/ http://tympanus.net/Tutorials/FullscreenBookBlock/ Lindy Li Loong
