    FROM THE EDITOR

The general public always considered technologists as punching bags and blamthem for anything and everything. A new power project is a product of a maficonspiracy to loot the state according to them. The rise in cost of power iconveniently attributed to mismanagement. No media or party ever gives a pat foachievements to those who actually worked hard for the country. The warning giveby the Engineers in 1992, traced out by Er NT Nair was more strongly worded thathose of the current crop of hard core environmentalists and shows the Engineerinfraternitys commitment to and concern for the welfare of Humanity.Glimpse into the future has the 5G mobile examined; Sasi draws a picture of a poocustomer who has no liberty to choose his pizza after information deluge! The rest of the contents were chosen by super-readers and found fit to share wityou. 5G MOBILECharles Arthur

Researchers say no standard has yet been agreed despite claim to have developed system hundreds otimes faster than 4G

Samsung- the South Korean electronics giant has claimed to have developed a '5G' mobile syste

hundreds of times faster than 4G. Researchers have played down claims by Samsung pointing out thits tests only apply to one element of the system needed to implement a standard. The key problem that there is no agreed 5G standard and may not be for years.

Samsung said it had tested a new transceiver capable of sending and receiving data at speeds of mothan 1,000 megabits per second (Mbps) over distances up to two kilometers. That compares with 4services that are now being implemented in the UK which offer average speeds of between 8 Mbps an12 Mbps which is still substantially faster than 3G services that have been in use since 2003.

Those transmission speeds would mean that an entire 640MB CD could be downloaded in five secondor a standard 4GB DVD in half a minute. At such speeds, users could have real-time streaming of ultra

high definition video, 3D movies or games, it said.

The transmissions used in the test were made at the ultra-high 28GHz frequency, which offers far mobandwidth than the 800MHz frequencies used for some 4G networks in the UK and elsewhere. Higfrequencies can carry more data, but have the disadvantage that they generally can be blocked bbuildings and lose intensity over longer distances.

The standard could be agreed between 2015 and 2017, with commercial rollouts beginning in 2020.

If Samsung's antenna systems form the basis of part of the standard, its patents would generate consistent revenue stream through licensing to companies implementing 5G. Its patents already for

part of the 3G and 4G/LTE standards. Guardian

    Drop the Trifles

Billy Graham tells the story about a little child was playing with a very valuable vase. He put his hand into it ancould not withdraw it.

His father too, tried his best to get it out, to no avail.

They were thinking of breaking the vase when the father said, "Now my son, make one more try. Open your hanand hold your fingers out straight as you see me doing, and then pull."

To their astonishment the little fellow said, "O no, dad, I couldn't put my fingers out like that because if I didwould drop my dime."

Smile, if you will but thousands of us are like that little boy, so busy holding on to the world's worthless dimes thawe cannot accept liberation. Suhair

World Scientists warning to Humanity 1992

Human beings and the natural world are on a collision course. Human activities inflict harsh and ofte

irreversible damage on the environment and on critical resources. If not checked, many of our curre

practices put at serious risk the future that we wish for human society and the plant and anim

kingdoms, and may so alter the living world that will be unable to sustain life in the manner that w

know. Fundamental changes are urgent if we are to avoid the collision our present course will brinabout. (Reported by Er.N.T.Nairin the Voice of Kerala Engineers)

No Strings AttachedAn unknown author beautifully portrays the possibilities of no-strings-attached love in this heartfelt story titled ThRock. As she grew older her teenage daughter became increasingly rebellious. It culminated late one night when thpolice arrested her daughter for drunk driving. Mom had to go to the police station to pick her up.They didnt speak until the next afternoon.Mom broke the tension by giving her a small gift- wrapped box. Her daughter nonchalantly opened it and foundlittle rock inside.

She rolled her eyes and said, Cute, Mom, whats this for?Read the card, Mom instructed. Her daughter took the card out of the envelope and read it. Tears started to trickle down her cheeks. She got uand lovingly hugged her mom as the card fell to the floor. On the card were these words: This rock is more than 200,000,000 years old. That is how long it will take beforegive up on you.

This mother is not saying, I will love you IF Instead she says that she will love her daughter forever annothing can change that. No strings attached. When we learn to love like that, I think well understand the words of Emmett Fox, who said, If you could only lovenough, you could be the most powerful person in the world. our thinking and surroundings does impact our health and well-being. Currently many such experiments are progress to reverse the aging process. The simple message is our body responds to the suggestions from osurroundings.

    Mind also rules the body.

In another experiment Japanese researcherscreated two groups of 13 students each and they were blindfoldeGroup A were given an arm rub of harmless shrub but told that rub is from a poisonous ivy. Surprisingly all them developed rashes and boils reflective of poisonous ivy effect. The second group was allergic to poisonouivy however their permission had been taken prior to the experiment. During the experiment their arm was actuarubbed with poisonous ivy but informed that it was a harmless shrub.Surprisingly only 3% of the candidatedeveloped rashes and boils on the body. How is it possible? Simplemind rules over the body.

The message is loud and clear

We are influenced by our surroundings

    Mind rules the body

Mind does not differentiate between actual and visualized experience.

Having read this, change your surroundings to change your life and if you cannot change your surroundinvisualize the best to achieve the best. Courtesy, VinodMehra / ASuhair

    Management Lessons

An academically bright person attended an interview for a managerial position in a reputed companAfter the preliminary screenings, the director made the final interview. The CV revealed that the youthacademic result was excellent. The director then enquired about his family. The youth answered, Mfather passed away when I was one year old and it was my mother who ran the family and paid mschool fees. The director asked, Where did your mother work? The youth said, My mother worked aa cloth cleaner. The director asked the youth to show his hands and the youth showed a pair of handthat was soft and smooth. The director asked, Did you ever help your mother wash clothes before?Thyouth answered, Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more books. Further, mmother could wash clothes faster than I could. The director said, When you go back today, go and heto clean your mothers hand, and then see me tomorrow morning.

The youth after reaching home approached his mother to clean her hands. She felt strange at th

behaviour. The youth slowly cleaned his mothers hands. Tears started rolling down his cheek when hfirst time noticed that his mothers hands were so wrinkled, and that there were so many bruises in themSome bruises were so painful that she shuddered when he continued cleaning. This is the first time ththe youth realized and experienced that it is this pair of hands that washed the clothes every day to eahim the school fees and that the bruises in the mothers hand were the price that the mother paid for hgraduation and academic achievements and probably his future. After finishing the cleaning of handthe youth quietly helped his mother washing all the remaining clothes. That night, the mother and sotalked for a very long time.

Next morning, the youth went to the directors office. Noticing the sadness on the youths face thdirector asked:Can you tell me what you did and learned yesterday in your house? The youth said, cleaned my mothers hands and also finished washing all the remaining clothes. The director continuePlease tell me what you felt doing these jobs.

    The youth said:

Number 1, I know what appreciation is now. Without my mother, I would not be successful today.

Number 2, Now I know how to work together with my mother. Only now do I realize how difficult antough it is to handle physical labour.

Number 3, I realized the importance and value of family relationship.

The director said, This is what I want. I wanted to recruit a person who can appreciate the help others, a person who knows the suffering of others to get things done, and a person who would not pu

money as his only goal in life, to be my manager. Now I am happy to hire you on this job.To TOP

This young person worked very hard in his job, received the respect and support of his subordinates ancould take the company to greater heights.

    The morals:

A child, who has been protected and habitually given whatever he needs, develops an entitlemementality and always puts himself first. He is ignorant of his parents efforts. When he starts working, hassumes every person must listen to him. When he becomes a manager, he will never know thsuffering of his employees and always blame others. These kinds of people might get results for a whilebut not lasting success or happiness derived from a pleasant working environment.

If we happen to be this kind of (protective) parent, this is the time to ask the question - whether we arloving our children or destroying them. So,

    * You can let your child live in a big house, eat a good meal, learn to play the piano, watch a big screeTV but when you are cutting grass or other household chores, please let them involve in it.

    * After a meal, let them wash their plate and bowl. It is not because you do not have money to hire maid, but it is because you want them to experience the hard side of life.

    * And lastly, the most important thing for your child is to learn to experience and learn the effort anability needed to work with others and appreciate them in order to get things done. They should alsvalue and appreciate what their parents have done and love them as they are!

    Photo pollution (light pollution)

We are well aware of noise pollution and air pollution but less so of light pollution though

is increasing every day. Light pollution disrupts sensitive work of astronomical observatoriearound world and space research, apart from causing health hazards to human beings an

Light pollution is excessive misdirected or obtrusive artificial light. It can harm peop

Why the Endless Chasing..?Tom was an Entrepreneur, sitting idle would give him nightmares. You must have seen few episodes oTom and Jerry, wherein Tom almost had Jerry but let it go. Tom never really wanted to kill Jerry becauswhat would he do if Jerry dies. Jerry was the Chase. Tom was running not after Jerry but because oJerry.

After certain point of time name, money, power, etc. cease to be a motivation for an Entrepreneur. Evthought the great Ambanis, Tatas, Birlas, why are they toiling so hard, they have already got name, moneand power. What makes these people run is The CHASE, all Entrepreneurs chase The CHASE. Tom more interested in Chasing Jerry than killing it. In our case, we Entrepreneurs are more interested

running a venture than anything else, profit of course is important and a yardstick to measure succesbut what will an Entrepreneur do if his biz is not giving him profits, at the most he will change thbusiness but continue The Chase. More than profits, we Entrepreneurs love the thrill in the business.

Just imagine, if one day Jerry does not show up, Tom will become restless, he would not eat, not drinnot sleep but keep waiting for Jerry. Remember, Tom was hired by a Fat lady to get rid of Jerry. In oucase, that Fat lady is Society, relative and our parents. If Jerry doesn't show up, the Fat lady will be happand praise Tom and give Tom fresh milk to drink, chicken to eat, etc. Similarly, society, parents, relativeetc want our Chase to end, if our Jerry dies too, society will praise us for being Normal again, parents wthank us for saving them from embarrassment that they felt when people asked 'What your Son do?' anour parents would reply 'dekhiye, karrahahaikuch or Entrepreneur or Berozgar'. Everyone would be happaround us but we will become restless, we will not eat or drink or sleep like Tom because we will miss Th

Chase. This is also the reason why it is easier to switch from job to Entrepreneur but not Entrepreneur job.

What next Tom will do if Jerry does not show up even next day? He will find ways to tempt Jerry to comout of his hole. He will steal the cheese from the Fat lady himself and place it near Jerry's hole, so thJerry comes out and Tom can Chase him. Similarly, when a venture dies, fear of end of Chase tEntrepreneur is much painful than the pain of closing down the venture. And then without mourning fothe death of the venture for long time, Entrepreneur is out chasing The CHASE. I was running a PizzOutlet in Badlapur with my business partner Sumeet Gujaran. One fine day, we had to take the harsdecision of closing down the venture. We sat in our balcony thinking about our venture, we were sad anin pain. Then we discussed all the learning, mistakes, achievements, etc. By the end of the conversatiothere was just one question haunting us 'What's next?' For a week almost we were struggling killing timwandering here and there, nothing to do. After every few minutes we used to look towards each other an

ask 'What's next?' We were restless, we didn't eat or drink properly, neither could we sleep well. Thcontinued until something clicked to us, we looked towards each other and we had the answer to 'Whatnext?' Suddenly, we felt so light, all our pain was gone by then, because we got our new Jerry. Wrealized our real pain was end of the Chase not end of the venture. Chase for Chasing is what makes uEntrepreneur. This is the reason why NASA didn't stop even after reaching to moon, why Steve Jobs wanot satisfied with iMac and launched iPhone then iPod then iPad etc.... Because they all are after ChasinWhether you are infant Entrepreneur or seasoned Entrepreneur you have this affinity for chasing in yomay be knowingly or unknowingly.....

    TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Phenomenal growth was recorded in almost all sectors in India in the past two decades. To susta

the economic growth, a major boost from infrastructure is needed. Necessity of the state of a

infrastructure has emerged and has received due recognition.

One of the core- sectors providing impetus to growth engines is the road network. Roa

Development has witnessed a sea-change in terms of lane configurations and enhance

serviceability and efforts are on to make it on par with Global standards. Central and Statgovernments are pursuing the goals of enhancing accessibility and improving mobility with safety

The focus is on quality. We read about North-South and East-West connectivity in the Nationa

Highway Development Project, a Golden Quadrilateral, Port-connectivity, Metros and simil

    ambitious programs.

India has three million kilometers of Road network,- the third largest in the world. The Engineer- in

fraternity is thriving for enhanced and value-added facilities. Along with the growth of length an

width of roads, traffic volume and congestion grow exponentially. Delays due to congestion result

increased fuel consumption adversely affect the environment and cause accidents.

The Technological intervention of ATMS (Advanced Traffic Management System) is a teste

    solution.

Efficiency is achieved by reducing congestion. On line traffic information is an intelligent input.

deploys technologies of state of the art sensing, communication and data processing. Congestio

management and incident management can be handled more efficiently. The information from traff

sensors help to devise and develop optimal traffic control strategies to address needs o

intersections, corridors or areas. Appropriate information dissemination and message signs he

travelers. As Technology plays a major role in the ATMS, it has to be reliable to a very high degre

and should have no margin for error. All subsystems should strictly comply with releva

TIPS ON INVESTMENTS IN SHARES-CXXIThe markets were in great turbulence during the month of June 2013. Globally also th

markets were very volatile. The most important financial event that happened during thlatter part of the month was the great depreciation of the rupee against the dollar. FromRs.55 a dollar at the beginning of the month, it went down to an all time low of Rs.60.70 dollar. This fall in the value of rupee adversely affected the markets. On 20thof June thsensex tanked by 526 points and Nifty by 166 points on account of the down fall of thrupee. The FIIs were net sellers and that too affected the performance of the marketsBut on the last two days of trading for the month of June the market recovered 844 pointin the sensex and the nifty 254 points. All these variations show the greater volatility othe markets. If the weakening of the rupee continues our markets are likely to collapseThe inflation figure for the month of May was around 4.1 an all time low for the last twyears. But it was not considered by the investors. The strengthening of Dollar forces thFIIs to withdraw from the market, it results in major outflow of Dollar causing fall in thvalue of rupee. Unlike olden days, this time domestic investors are very active and thhas resulted in keeping the indices from heavy fall. However, the increase in currenaccount deficit is a cause to worry. Unless some major actions are taken in econom

reforms the crisis will become uncontrollable.According to analysts the short term trend of sensex is down. If the index continues tdecline the sensex may reach 18385, 8121 or even 17600.Any rally may take it to 1931or 19745. If it is unable to move beyond 19313 the index will decline in the days to comeThe medium term trend continues to be up. The long term trend will become negativonly on a close below 17540.Likewise the nifty can move to 5620, 5477, or 5384 over the next couple of weeks. It haresistance at 5850 and then at 5994. Inability to move beyond 5850 will indicate that thindex will move in a range of 5850 and 5384 in the coming weeks. The long term trend positive until a strong close below 5350.For investors this is time for close watch on markets. They may book profit during rallieand make investments in phases during decline.
