Blackpool's Past on Facebook Blackpool’s Past is a local group that has been set up by *sand grown* Juliette Gregson to cater for the facebook fans who love to live in Blackpool and share memories and photographs from there own personal albums. Juliette and the members believe it’s important to keep heritage alive within the town and chart the progression of time new and old, being knocked down or just a favourite memory. We would love some new memories and members to swell the ranks of the group. Blackpool contains many buildings of importance with over 30 listed buildings and over 40 blue plaques, Blackpool’s past believes this group will be instrumental in driving forward our commitment to embracing the town’s unique social and physical history.

Blackpool contains some of the best examples of Victorian architecture in Britain, with fine examples including the Winter Gardens, the Grand Theatre, the piers and of course the legendary Tower, which was recently nominated as an icon of England by the public at the Icons Website. The town also offers excellent examples of a variety of architectural styles in its built environment and offers an unparalleled collection of Victorian and Edwardian guesthouses.

Simply Stars are super stars! A group of young cheerleaders did themselves proud this weekend, bringing home two trophies from a national cheerleading competition. Simply Stars Cheer Team entered their first ever cheerleading routines into the competition, on Saturday 14th May. The UK Cheerleading Association's National Community Championships, held at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester, is a very popular event with over 40 teams from around the country attending. SimplyStars entered two teams into the competition; Junior A Team, for ages 11 and under, and Junior B, for ages 16 and under. The Junior A Team got 3rd place and the Junior B Team got 5th place. “We are so proud of all the girls

and their incredible performances”, says Paula Topham, mum of two cheerleaders, “Both teams came out with great results, especially against such tough competition. We had a fantastic day and can't wait for the next one!”. Simply Stars Cheer Team was formed in 2008 and is based at Tiptoes Theatre School in Layton.Head coach, Carrie-Ann Bartlett, decided the girls were ready to enter their first cheerlead-ingcompetition and is in high spirits following the fantastic results - “The cheerleaders have worked incredi-bly hard towards the competition.

It was an opportunity to give the girls a new and exciting, experience. I never expected to come home with two trophies!”. Do you remember scalectrix as a kid? Well this is what happens when you soup it up a bit. I ‘am of course talking about slot car racing, the fastest form of indoor motor sport around. I’m not talking about those slow ass things you played around with on your lounge floor all those years ago (or still do), I’m talking about small cars doing actual speeds of 60 MPH. Our club BSCC was founded in 2009 and is a family friendly club. BSCC boasts a 4 lane track with a 120 foot lap length which gives you very fast close racing. Now you’re think-ing “How do I compete with these big shot racers?” Well the good news is that you can still win something at the end of the season; we run championships to suit your skill level so novices have as much chance to win a trophy at

the end of the season than the best of the best. There is also a best newcomer crown to contend for. Refreshments are available in the form of tea/ coffee and biscuits. Yes all this racing and refreshment for only £3 a night for kids and a fiver for adults. We are open every Friday night no matter what the weather from 7:30PM at the scout hut at the Blackpool Cricket Club near Stanley Park.
