Lions providing incentives, assistance and infrastructure to create excellent communities. Lions International Australia District 201V3 Newsletter Web Site address : www.201v3.lions.org.au PP363372/00004 May 2016 Well another month has flown by and by now all of you will have heard that Jack Napior has decided to step down from the position of 2nd Vice District Governor Elect and the search is on for a replacement. I would like at this time to thank Jack for taking the time to consider the toll this position may have had on his family life, which is the factor that lead him to make the decision to step aside before actually taking up the position. Jack I personally wish you all the best and hope that one day when you have more time that you will consider standing for the position again. It has been very quiet at the DG’s residence this month, I have been out and about visiting clubs at Zone Meetings and distributing the new “March to Maymembership drive leaflets and posters. A fantastic trip to be won by a Lion who has been inducted during the month of March, or considers joining during April or May. Go on line and register to win the trip of a lifetime, a cruise up the Mekong River, valued at $7990.00, compliments of the tour specialists APT plus from the Lions Clubs of V Districts, you get $1000.00 towards your airfares. The Ride For Sight what a fantastic event, up early Thursday morning and off to Newborough at 6.30am for the start of the ride (so I was early). At 7.30am we find that, that bloke called Herb from Yinnar has forgotten us and gone fishing, so a mad dash to Churchill to pick up the tag car which tags along behind and picks up riders who cant make the hills etc etc. Back to Newborough to kick off the ride. Its A Great privilege for the DG to send off the riders, Alas I was TOO LATE. They waited but not long enough oh well next year. Oh hell, I opened my big mouth and said I would ride next year, besides who would want to take the fun away from Anita sending the riders off. I believe the ride is starting at Omeo so she will need to be there the night before to have the glorious job of sending the riders on their way down the mountain at 8.00am, then the 6 hour trip home. Anita, it will be something that you will remember and also a highlight of your year for the historian to capture on the camera. Well I believe I heard somebody say My Lord, the DG waffles on, so thats all from me for this month. Please travel safely and have a great time at your Club meetings. Whoops, nearly forgot to remind you, most Clubs do disbursements at the end of the year and its good practice to leave a little more in the bank than what you started with. Give the next President a head start and eventually that big program will come along and lo and behold, you will have the capitol raised over several years. (sorry Marjorie) DG Ian V3

Well another month has flown

by and by now all of you will

have heard that Jack Napior

replacement. I would like at this

him to make the decision to step aside before

actually taking up the position. Jack I

personally wish you all the best and hope that

one day when you have more time that you

will consider standing for the position again.

It has been very quiet at the DG’s residence

this month, I have been out and about visiting

clubs at Zone Meetings and distributing the

new “March to May” membership drive

leaflets and posters. A fantastic trip to be won

by a Lion who has been inducted during the

The Ride For Sight what a fantastic event, up

STOP PRESS 2ND VICE DISTRICT GOVERNOR,

2016 – 2017

Below, is a copy of the contents of an email I

sent to District Governor Ian at the beginning

of March 2016 in relation to the above

position, which he requested I not insert in

the V3 Newsletter until the May 2016 issue.

“After considerable soul searching over the

last week or so, I have decided, for purely

personal reasons, that I will not be making

myself available for the position of 2nd VDG

2016-2017.

Having now gained a much better

appreciation of the full extent of the

commitment District Governors are required

to make during their term of office, I can

confirm that with my on-going commitments

outside Lions I would be unable to devote the

necessary time and energy to carry out these

responsibilities to the level that I would expect

of myself, should I be elected District

Governor in 2018-2019, but, more

importantly, to the level that the District

deserves.

In other words, and in accordance with the

mantra that Lions comes third behind family

and work I have decided that my family is

more important to me than being 2nd VDG, 1st

VDG and DG.

I have not made this decision lightly, but now

it has been made I’m certain it is the right

decision. Needless to say, I feel a little guilty

about not making myself available for 2nd

VDG since I recognise the unanimous

support my Club gave me by backing my

nomination, as well as the support the

delegates at the Lakes Entrance District

Convention gave me by endorsing me as 2nd

VDG 2016-2017. However, at the end of the

day I must do what I believe to be the right

thing for my family and myself.

I’d like to thank you for your support during

the time I was deliberating whether to stand

for 2nd VDG and apologise for the obvious

inconvenience my decision will cause.

However, it is surely better to make this

decision now when there are over three

months to go before the start of the 2016-

2017 year to enable a replacement to be

found rather than leave the decision until we

are into the new Lions year, or even 2017-

2018.”

Perhaps there comes a time for all of us

when we have to make a choice between

family and Lions. I have made this choice and

I trust you, the Lions of the District, will

appreciate the reasons for my decision.

Kind regards,

Jack Napior

VICTORIAN LIONS FOUNDATION

What do we do ? Think of the Foundation

as a bank. Clubs send us money, either

designated to a specific medical institute or

undesignated, so that we can direct it to the

V.L.F. project with the most need. Refer to

our flyer for a complete list of our projects.

We then pay, or part pay, the salary of our

Lions Fellows [research scientists] as

required. Much needed medical equipment

can be purchased from the undesignated

funds.

Why do we do it ? Clubs are lucky to get

5% interest on their funds. With our much

larger investments we can double that

interest which enables us to support our

scientists much better. We rely on club

support - YOU are keeping a scientist in a

job and Melbourne researchers are among

the best in the world.

What we don’t do. We cannot loan or fund

any requests from clubs. That is a

prerequisite of the Australian Lions

Foundation and the Lions Clubs International

Foundation.

Our meetings. Anyone is

welcome to attend our meetings, which are

held four times a year on the last Sunday in

February, May, August and November. All

club secretaries are notified of the dates

beforehand. To make it more informative,

we regularly have guest speakers from the

different projects under our umbrella.

Speaker for the May meeting is Prof. Peter

Institute, speaking on research into diabetes.

PEACE POSTER CONTEST "A Celebration of Peace."

A Celebration of peace is the theme of the 2016–2017 Peace Poster Contest. Lions Clubs can sponsor the program in their community for children in local schools or organised youth groups.

The Picture is the winner from last year and was from Yumo Zhu 12 years old from China. “Share Peace”

Students who will be 11, 12 or 13 years of age on November 15th 2016 are eligible to participate. Through the contest students are encouraged to visually depict their interpretation of the contest’s theme. It is also very important that the wording about the theme is what the poster is about, not what the

child is thinking. Lions Clubs may purchase a contest kit from Club

Supplies at Newcastle Office. Artwork must be no smaller than 33cm by 50cm

and no larger than 50cm by 60cm.October 1st 2016 – Deadline to purchase kits from the Club

Supplies. Posters Must be sent to The District Chairman. If you have any questions please contact. David Culpitt - Peace Poster Chairman.
