Listening Bingo A Worksheet by Golden Gate Audubon Society Take a walk on your street or in a park. Check off each sound that you hear. It doesn’t count if you see it but don’t hear it! Sometimes it helps to close your eyes and sit quietly. You can also make a cone shape with your hand to help you hear better. About bird sounds: Different species (kinds) of birds make different sounds. Even a single bird can make different kinds of sounds depending on what it’s trying to say—for instance whether it’s trying to attract a mate, warn other birds about danger, or ask its parents for food. Listen for different kinds of bird sounds. Some are short single notes. Others are long complex melodies. Ducks quack, songbirds such as robins and finches sing, and crows give out a harsh “caw,” while pigeons and doves give out a low, vibrating “coo.” Learn more about birds at allaboutbirds.org or goldengateaudubon.org.
