How can these activities help my students?Most students have
trouble when listening to English. These activities will help your
students practice their listening in a structured way. They will be
able to focus on developing their listening skills in key areas. As
they improve, so will their confidence. Remember, students get
better at listening the more they practice!
When do I use these activities?Whenever you like! Activities are
organized by theme, skill, level and grammar focus. You can choose
an activity related to a topic or grammar point in your course
book, or according to the listening skill you want to practice.
Make sure the level is appropriate (Elementary, Intermediate, Upper
intermediate) and away you go!
How do I use them?Just read the notes provided for each
activity. The Procedure section gives you an easy to follow
step-by-step guide of what to do. The post-listening exercises are
optional, so you can choose to cover these or not, as you wish.
How do I use the Audio files?The recordings on this website are
in MP3 files. If an MP3 player is not installed on your computer,
you can downloada playerfree of charge

You can use the MP3 files while connected to the Web or download
and save them.It will be much more practical for you to save the
files first and use them when you need them. Just right-click on
the hyperlink and then click on "Save Target As"(or the equivalent
in the language used on your machine). Save the file in a folder
you create for the MP3s from onestopenglish.
How many different listening skills are covered?Listening
involves a combination of many different skills. For a full list of
the skills covered and some details on each one,click here.
What about words my students may not know?There is a vocabulary
list of words that students may not know at that level for each
activity. Just read through the list and decide if you need to
pre-teach any before you begin the main task.
How long do the activities take?Activities are designed to take
between 15 and 45 minutes. Clearly, these timings can vary
depending on the class. They are intended as a guide only.
What accents are used?A variety of native and non-native speaker
accents are used, from British English, American English and
Australian English to Asian, African and European speakers of the
language. However, in all cases the accents should be easy to
understand and accessible for the students.
Do the speakers talk too fast?For each activity the recording
speed is marked at the top of the page. Recordings can be Slow,
Medium or Fast, depending upon the activity.
