Section A – Modern prose or drama (30 marks) ‘DNA’ by Dennis Kelly Spend 45 minutes on this section Section B – Exploring Culture (30 marks) ‘Of Mice and Men’ by John Steinbeck Spend 45 minutes on this section The whole exam is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Section A: Students are recommended to spend 45 minutes on this section. There will be a choice between 2 questions and students will have to pick 1 only to respond to. The questions will be based on students drawing on knowledge from across the play, often questioning a particular: Theme Character Quote Relationship Idea

Section B Students are recommended to spend 45 minutes on this section. Part a: There will be a short extract which students are expected to read an annotate using the AOs. The question will be in reference to the passage. Part b: The question will often use the themes/ideas in the passage to question students on their knowledge of the whole book.
Read the extract. Part (a) In this passage, how does Steinbeck present Slim? Refer closely to the passage in your answer. and then Part (b) In the rest of the novel, how does Steinbeck show that some people on the ranch are considered more important than others? How does this reflect the society in which the novel is set?

Relationship Cluster – 36 marks
Section A Students are recommended to spend 45 minutes on this section. There will be a choice between 2 questions and students will have to pick 1 only to respond to. The question will ask you to compare the methods poets use to present a relationship/feeling between a named poem and 1 more of your choice from the Relationship Cluster. Remember the named poem can be any one from the 15 poems in the Relationship Cluster!
Unseen Poetry – 18 marks
Section B Students are recommended to spend 30 minutes on this section. You will be presented with a poem we have not studied. The question will ask you to comment on the feelings and methods, and how the poet uses these methods to present the feelings to the reader.
