MESSAGE FROM OUREXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ANDBOARD CHAIRPERSON

Our hearts are filled with gratitude as we reflect upon the yearthat was 2020. The COVID-19 virus brought our services to arelative halt for approximately 14 weeks, but the dedicationand creativity of our staff prevailed. We were able to reviseour service delivery methods in a way that allowed us tosafely resume our services. You, our faithful and generous donors, were right beside usevery step of the way! When we needed rent and utilitiesassistance funds for our clients, you were right there withopen hands. When we needed unexpected funding forprotective equipment, your extra contributions made itpossible. When we needed additional help in the delivery ofservices, you were with us, masked and socially distant!During a year in which the Board anticipated in-kinddonations and financial gifts to be down due to the pandemic, the community lifted St. Francis House up and made itpossible to serve close to 2,000 households. Both staff and volunteers of St. Francis House were forwardthinking, nimbly adjusting operating procedures as needed. They put themselves on the front lines when they could havestayed home and stayed safe. The dedication that the teamshowed to our mission and our clients is commendable andshould not go without recognition. The resulting impact of our services, yours and ours, madethis year so much better for our clients. Together, we kepthope burning in their hearts during a dark and frighteningyear!

The Nook – Charity Boutique, is operated by St. FrancisHouse and staffed by volunteers, The Nook opened inNovember 2012. It offers many "high-end" items that St.Francis House receives throughtout the year and that its clientsdon't typically need.

Through the sale of these items, all proceeds from The Nookgo directly back to supporting the Clothing Bank Program.

Thelma thought that life was harrowing enough when she had to escape from a domesticviolence situation. Little did she know that it would soon become even more traumatic! The single mother of 3, aged 12-17, Thelma had recently become temporarily housed. Sheand her boys had lost everything they owned when they fled to safety. When her sistercame to visit with her three young boys, Thelma was glad that her own children had thehappy distraction of visiting with their cousins. Much to her surprise, however, she woke thenext morning to discover that her sister had slipped out of the house during the night, leaving behind her four children. After desperately trying in vain to find her sister, Thelmarealized that she now had seven children to care for! Her call to St Francis House resulted in a special shopping session in spite of its beingclosed due to the pandemic. Thelma gratefully received clothing and bedding from the staffalong with groceries, pull-ups, and treats for the children. Not only that, but she found abelated Mother’s Day gift of lotion and body wash tucked into the bags! As Thelma goes about rebuilding her life, her amazingly positive attitude will give herstrength. She is grateful that her sister chose, for whatever reason, to leave her childrenwith Thelma rather than on the doorstep of strangers who could not love them as well asshe could through this difficult time.
