A Civil Rights Scrapbook: Little Rock
May 24th, 1955: Little Rock School Board planned to gradually integrate the school...this was
called the “Blossom Plan” or the “Little Rock Phase
Governor Oral Faubus and Arkansas National Guard blockaded the African American students
from entering Little Rock High School: September 4, 1955
Due to the angry mobs that the group faced, the nine students tried to stay home for two weeks
and try to keep up with their schoolwork so they would not have to attend school and face the
angry mob
Since the angry mobs and children attending the school were so unpredictable, the nine
students were escorted around the campus by soldiers that would assure their safety on school
grounds
