Summary of the March 6th Board Meeting
• Dues payments are running ahead of last year; by this time last year we had 179 homes paid; this year we have 184 (there are 360 homes in Canterbury).
• The bulk of the meeting was spent on reviewing the new website design. The description of each social event has been added to the website. The Board reviewed the process for getting online payments to the web-site. When polling a neighboring HOA we learned that additional dues payments did not come in as a result of the convenience. The Board remains committed to creating convenience for the HOA members, but will weigh the costs and benefits of adding the online payments.
• Covenant issues - the issue of not shoveling snow is not a covenant issue. We received comments requesting neighbors who have corner lots to please shovel both sides of their homes. While not a covenant issue, the Board has often requested a compliance of shoveling within 24 hours of the cessation of a snow storm.
• Crime and safety committee report: the committee continues to recom-mend all homes keep their outside lights on at night. The committee will be contacting communities along Meadows to set up a community meeting on safety (and speeding). Jeffco Road & Bridge will re-evaluate putting three way stop signs at Meadows/Vista View. The committee, in connection with our maintenance group, is checking with Foothills about adding lights to Chaucer Park.
Canterbury Cross - Which Best
Suits the Canterbury Tales?
In the course of the work with the upgrading of the website, the Board ques-tioned the use of the Fleur de Lis on our monthly Canterbury Tales. The Fleur de Lis (or flowering Lily) is used most often in con-nection with French religiosity. We sought to provide something more “Chaucer-based” and found the Canterbury Cross. The Canterbury Cross was designed after a Saxon brooch, dating circa 850 that was found in 1867 in Canterbury, England. Geoffrey Chaucer wrote the Canterbury Tales. Chaucer died in 1400 and is widely considered the greatest English poet of the Middle Ages. He was the first poet to be bur-ied in Poets’ Corner of Westminster Abbey.

Covenant Issues Every year the HOA board members want to make the residents of Canterbury aware of the covenant complaints we received throughout the year. We respond to every complaint. We will not use the name of the complainant when we notify a homeowner that there is a covenant complaint filed against them. If the issue is not brought into compliance, the county will be notified and they will investigate the complaint. If the county finds that the complaint is valid, they will give the homeowner 7 days to correct the issue. If it is not corrected, a fine can be imposed. Obviously nobody wants these complaints to get that far. To date, there have only been a handful of complaints that have been reported to the county. Our covenants mirror the Jefferson County Official Development Plan (OPD). Jeffco will enforce the ODP. Here is a list of the most common covenants violated: • Parking and Storage. At least two off-street parking
spaces shall be required for each residence. No inoper-able or unlicensed vehicle shall remain parked in front of any residence for longer than three (3) consecutive days. Vehicles to be parked for longer than three (3) consecutive days shall be stored as provided below:
• Boats, Trailers, Campers, and Recreation Vehicle Storage. Boats, campers, trailers, mobile homes, recre-ational vehicles, snowmobiles, junk vehicles, or other similar types of vehicles shall only be permitted to be stored within completely enclosed structures or within areas specifically designed for such storage provided such areas are behind building setback lines. This
provision is required by the Jefferson County Official Development Plan (ODP). It applies to all defined vehi-cles whether operational or not.
• Automobiles, Trucks and Other Vehicles not covered by Section 10 A above. All such vehicles to be stored for longer than three (3) consecutive days will be concealed within an enclosed garage or in the rear of the residence which is concealed from view by a six ft. high privacy fence surrounding the rear yard area. All operational and licensed vehicles may remain parked in front of resi-dences; however, owners are encouraged to park such vehicles in off-street parking spaces when not in use.
• Garbage and Refuse Disposal. No lot, out-lot or vacant parcel shall be used or maintained as a dumping ground for rubbish, trash, garbage or other waste. No lot shall be used in whole or in part for the storage of any prop-erty or thing that will cause such lot to appear in an unclean or untidy condition or that will be obnoxious to the eye; nor shall any substance, thing or material emit foul or obnoxious odors, or that which will cause any noise that will or might disturb the peace, quiet, comfort or serenity of the occupants of surrounding property.
• Clearing of Trees and Grading. All the trees cleared will be disposed of in such a way that all lots, whether vacant or occupied by a residence, shall be kept free of accumulations of brush, trash or other materials which may constitute a fire hazard or render a lot unsightly, provided, however, that this shall not operate or restrict

• We have also received complaints about trash cans on the driveway or side yard, visible from the street. This is also a covenant violation. Please keep your trash cans in the garage or behind your fence.

A Message From Foothills It is official, Chaucer Park will be getting a new playground this summer! We have the date planned for August 11th and will have a large group of experienced playground building vol-unteers out from the Columbine Stake of the LDS church. We would also love to have the neighborhood involved! We will be setting up a time to meet with neighborhood children to hear their input on the playground as well as community meetings. This is the beginning stages of the planning and I will be sure to keep you involved along the way. For 2018 we will be working on the playground and shelter with more improvement, like irrigation, to come. Please let me know if you have any questions.
