Psychology has taught us a great deal about family
dynamics and how we have come to be the person we
find ourselves to be. We are comprised of such a
mixed bag of blessings and obstacles with their graced
moments and sinful ones. Think back on the journey
of your life and how the many different and varied
choices that you made influenced the direction your
life. If you didn’t go on that first date with your spouse,
who would be beside you today? If you chose to be in one place rather than
another, what would have happened to the course your life has taken? We are
on such a wonderful, exciting journey. What is most incredible and awesome
is that we are not alone! God is with us. He inspires, heals, opens doors, and
calls us every moment of our lives. The very life we have is due only to Him.
We can all sit down and list adjectives describing who we are. One may find
him or herself more artistic than another or quicker with wit. We have unique
gifts and talents and have the great gift of free will, which we treasure. Our
histories come with more baggage for some and less hurdles for others, but
we all have to find our way through the path we are on. However, have you
ever given much thought to who you really are? That question has more merit
than may at first appear.
We know ourselves as we live out our earthly journey. But do we know our
heavenly self? What we know here is only one small part of who God has made
us to be. The disciples really thought they knew Jesus until they went up the
mountain. We also may think we know our true selves, too. We know that in
eternal life we shall not only see God, but become like Him. Who will you be?
What surprise do you think God has for you?

IN GRATITUDE FOR GOD’S GIFTS OF TIME AND TALENT TO US, WE GRATEFULLY ACKNOWLEDGE AND SALUTE:
OUR DEACONOUR DEACONOUR DEACONOUR DEACON Dan RindgeDan RindgeDan RindgeDan Rindge
Deacon Dan and his wife Missy are full-time residents of Beverly Beach.
After a seven-and-a-half-year formation program for the diaconate, Deacon
Dan was ordained in January 2011 in the Diocese of Fresno. He has been
assigned to SMdM and will serve under Father Manny.
He feels that his life as a husband of over 30 years and raising three
children to adulthood helped prepare him for the diaconate. Dan served the
residents of Los Angeles County as a peace officer after a brief time in the
Army. He has served in many parish ministries including RCIA, sacramental
preparation, religious formation, marriage support, young adult and youth
ministry, liturgy, and altar server training. Having experienced a family
member with same-sex attraction, Deacon Dan has been involved in ministries
who faithfully serve those with same-sex attraction and their family members.
Deacon Dan will serve at the direction of Father Manny and expects this will
be at Mass, preaching, bringing Eucharist to the homebound and hospitals,
and assisting with sacraments, memorial service, and faith formation.
He hopes to complete his Master’s in Theology from Franciscan University of
Steubenville by year end.
He quotes his favorite saying of St. Augustine, “Take care of your body as if
you are going to live forever and take care of your soul as if you are going to
die tomorrow.” With this in mind he participates in Adoration, praying the
Divine Office and Rosary, reading Scripture, and frequent Confession. You
might also find this busy man on a bike, paddle board, kayak, hike, or at target
practice to keep active and healthy.
We are so grateful for his example of stewardship of time and talent and for
his service to us here at SMdM.
REFLECT IONS ON STEWARDSHIP
New to Santa Maria del Mar?
Welcome! Registration
forms are available in
the Gathering Area,
on our website, and
in the parish office.
Lent is a time to reflect on ways to avoid sin. During the Middle Ages,
seven deadly sins emerged: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and
pride. Today the Church tells us that there are seven social sins that hurt
people: creating poverty, excessive wealth, polluting the environment,
contributing to the divide between the rich and the poor, bioethical
violations, morally dubious medical experiments, and drug abuse.
What is God asking of me as a good steward? God, the great provider of
everything I have, will let me know.

ration, he was ordained a transi-
tional deacon in September 1991
and to the holy priesthood in May
1992.
For over two decades, Father Ken
served as an Air Force Chaplain;
often providing pastoral care amid
active combat operations. Each as-
signment reaffirmed the reality
that, “in the midst of conflict and division God is
there.”
Today, Father Ken is Executive Director of Emmaus
Renewal, preaching Parish Missions, employing
Sacrament, Scripture, Story, and Song to spread the
Good News. He is a published composer and he

SECOND WEEK OF LENT Meet Trinh
Trinh's family are farmers in
Vietnam who have been
affected by climate change.
What would you do if your
source of nutrition was
threatened? How can we
support those whose livelihoods
are vulnerable to weather?
Visit crsricebowl.org for
more.
St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry Update
During the month of January, parishioners
generously donated bags of groceries which
allowed us to assist 121 families (200 adults
and 135 children)!
On March 7-8, the Food Pantry van will be
at SMdM before all Masses to collect the filled bags.
Groceries may be dropped off during the week at the thrift shop
or at the Church.
May God bless our generous parishioners!

ALTAR LINEN MINISTRY The Altar is a sign of Christ for
us. Altar cloths are used out of
reverence for the celebration
of the Memorial of the Lord
and the banquet that gives us
His Body and Blood. We are in
need of ministry members to
properly care for and cleanse
our Altar Linens. Please
consider joining our ministry.

Santa Maria del Mar is a lay

trained volunteers provide a
listening presence to others by
entering into a caring
relationship with those in
need, providing emotional and
spiritual support.

confidential. BeFriender
Ministry volunteers are
screened and trained and
receive on-going support
through the BeFriender
Leaders.

and emotional support and the
love of Christ to people
experiencing grief due to loss,
transition, or crisis. Members
may send cards, offer
condolences, and invite those
grieving to attend special
Masses. Contact Lois Ambrosia

CENTERING PRAYER CENTERING PRAYER CENTERING PRAYER CENTERING PRAYER GROUPGROUPGROUPGROUP The Centering Prayer ministry
is dedicated to fostering the
process of transformation in
Christ through the practices of
the Centering Prayer, Lectio
Divina, reflection/sacred
sharing, and enrichment
experiences. Centering Prayer
is simply a wordless, trusting
opening of self to the divine
presence. While it is about the
simplest form of prayer there
is, it allows us to get in touch
with our natural intimacy with
God deep within us that often
gets lost in the busyness of life.
Weekly Centering Prayer
sessions are held in the
Learning Center. If you are
interested in learning more,
contact Sue McBride, 956-9012.
ROSARY MAKERS Every Friday at
10 am in the LC,
Bartholomew
Room
This ministry
makes and provides rosaries
for the Missions and for parish
family members. Rosary-
making supplies are furnished,
and beginners are given
instructions in how to make a
rosary. Contact Pat Quinn at

Parish Hall
The Social Justice Ministry and Respect
Life Ministry are hosting an information
session with the Community Partnership
for Children (CPC), a non-profit agency
that partners with Florida’s Department
of Children and Families (DCF) to provide
services in our community for children
who have been abused, neglected, and/
or abandoned. Learn how you can get
involved in child welfare through
adoption, foster-parenting, and
mentoring. The session is open to the
entire community, so feel free to invite
anyone interested in child welfare.
A light lunch will be served.
Taking a child [Jesus] placed it
in their midst, and putting his
arms around it he said to
them, “Whoever receives one
child such as this in my name,
receives me; and whoever re-
ceives me, receives not me but
the One who sent me.” (Mark
9:36-37)
The Respect Life Ministry and The Knights of Columbus ask you to please Spiritually Adopt an Unborn Baby
More than 40 years ago, a court
decision was rendered which
legalized abortion through the
entire nine months of pregnancy.
This decision, Roe v. Wade, is the
reason more than 3,000 babies are
killed in the U.S. each day!
We are encouraging our
parishioners to “spiritually adopt”
an unborn baby by pledging to pray
for nine months for a baby that is in
danger of being aborted.
We also ask you to pray for the
mother or father considering
aborting their child. We ask you to
pray for this child so that the baby
will be carried to term and
experience the fullness of life, as
God intended.
Prayer cards will be handed out
March 21-22. Please pray the 10-second prayer daily for your
“adopted child.”
You are encouraged to name your baby and give him or her an
identity. At the end of the nine-month period, we will celebrate the
“birth” or our spiritually adopted babies with a baby shower. All
gifts collected will be give to Alpha Women’s Center.
