Oh, by the way,

February is National Catholic Press month

The Catholic Press Association (CPA) has been uniting and serving the Catholic press for more than one hundred years. The Catholic Press Association is by all accounts the most active and vibrant group of Catholic communicators in the world. It has nearly 225 publication members and 600 individual members in the association. Member print publications reach nearly 10 million households plus countless others through our members’ websites and social media

outlets. The CPA vision affirms that effective communications lie at the heart of the Church’s

mission to preach the Good News to all. To support this mission in today’s media-intensive and diverse world, the CPA is a trusted and primary provider of:

Community for collegial support and professional development Advocacy for journalism and media professionals Resources for Catholic communications professionals and ecclesial leaders Expertise in Catholic media and communications

Within our Local Church, the Office of Communications publishes The Catholic Moment, a bi-

weekly newspaper that has been visiting homes in the Lafayette diocese since 1945. The office

also offers parishes and schools media training

workshops, social media strategy, and web content

building. The office publishes an annual directory which

provides contact information for parishes, schools,

priests, deacons, offices, institutions and more. (If

anyone is interested in purchasing an annual directory,

please call 765.742.2050 or send name, address and a $15.00 check to DIRECTORY, Box 1603,

Lafayette, IN 47902-1603.)

This year, The Catholic Moment will be published 27 times as opposed to the previous 47

issues per year. By reducing the frequency of our paper, they will have more time to

focus on quality content.

A twice-monthly schedule will give the Office of Communications the time to better

develop stories and construct a richer edition of Catholic news for readers across the

Diocese.

The new schedule will allow them the opportunity to plan themed content in each edition.

Their goal will be to provide more local, purposeful, detailed stories.

Finally, since The Catholic Moment paper does not typically contain ’breaking new’

content, they can focus on in-depth reporting and find relevance of the news among their

readers.

Even though envelopes indicate $22 per subscription, renewal rates

will roll back to $20 a year. (The Diocese changed the program format last

fall. We weren’t notified in time for the change to our bi-monthly envelopes.

Deadlines are deadlines…we must submit total fiscal year list by April of

the previous year.)

I just received reminders about my FRUITFUL HARVEST pledges to our three (3) parishes. That tells me many of you did also. Please continue to support this effort in and of our Local Church. Parishes rely on regular contributions to make the Particular Church running. Remember the Bishop DOES NOT have a parish. To operate this Local Church, there are many people who work and provide programs and assistance to all the parishes within this Local Church. Our support of FRUITFUL HARVEST helps continue the work and mission of Jesus. Thank you for your continued support of FRUITFUL HARVEST. And according to most recent statistics, St. Peter is still # 1 in percentage of support!

Weather Thought: With the recent weather, Masses have been canceled. What is to be done if one is

unable to attend Mass for Sunday? (This applies to weather conditions, not hangovers, tired, lazy or don’t care!) If one is unable to attend because of weather (orange/red on IDHS), go to usccb.org. There is a monthly calendar on the right side of the page. Click on the SUNDAY date. The Mass readings will appear. Read them (slowly) and pray over them as a family! (The calendar also reflects week-day readings for weekday liturgies...and personal spirituality.)

FYI: One of the aspects of the on-line bulletin service is very attention-

grabbing: analytics. Looking back, on the week-end 19/20 January

when Masses were cancelled in our Cluster because of the orange

warning from IDHS, there was a total of 281 hits on the bulletin! People

wanted to see the bulletin! Interesting!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch….fr. K

Quick one-liners for you: The Boy Scout Troop 229 & Venture Crew 2229 will host a fish fry at the

Winamac VFW on Friday, February 15th from 4:00-7:00 P.M.

Dine in, carry out or drive thru will be available. Adults are

$9.00; children 12 and under are $5.00. All proceeds go to

support local Boy Scouts and the local Venture Crew. Please

plan to show your support on the 15th! See you there!

Are you a Ram or a Patriot?

Thank you to our Cluster for the donations for Birthright. 9 bins

were collected and will be delivered to Birthright sometime next

week. Many monetary donations were also collected and donated to

the organization. Your support is greatly appreciated by so many of

those in need!
