Preaching Series

All Saints Church A Season of Wisdom & Revelation

Epiphany is a season where the wisdom of sages reveals God to us in new and powerful ways. Throughout history, those sages have been found among those most marginalized and oppressed. In Epiphany, it is particularly important for us to seek out those voices, to invite them to speak their truth, to listen fearlessly and to heed their words.

At All Saints Church, we are committed to dismantling the structures of patriarchy and white supremacy that enslave us all. An important step in that direction is centering the voices of women and people of color and following their wisdom and leadership. That is why we are declaring Epiphany, 2018 ?A Season of Wisdom and Revelation? where we will only have women of color in our pulpit on Sunday mornings and we will be shaped and led by the Gospel they preach.

The lineup includes nationally-renowned preachers and theologians, members of our own congregation and youth ... prophetic voices all. We will also be welcoming other guests, like civil rights icon Dolores Huerta to share their life wisdom with us during this season. Don?t miss a Sunday ? and please invite everyone you know to be a part of this life-changing season.

Featured Ministry: Fiction Fun!

Fiction Fun! is a monthly book group exploring what it means to live lives of faith by reading

and discussing contemporary and classic works of fiction. The group does more than read and

discuss works of fiction: we go that extra step best described by the poet Shelley: “The great secret of morals is love; or a going out of our nature, and an identification of ourselves with the beautiful which exists in thought, action, or person, not our own.”

Prison Ministry Conference: Reimagining Justice in the Age of Mass IncarcerationMonday, Mar. 5 – Wednesday, Mar. 7. A conference sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and Prism Restorative Justice. Featured presenters: The Rev. Gregory J. Boyle, and Sister Helen Prejean. Mass incar-ceration ranks high among the injustices of our day, splitting families

and com-munities, perpetuat-ing racism, and failing to deliver the very thing it promises: justice. What does true justice

look like in our current context? This conference will study that question from a multifaceted perspective, looking at diverse approaches to justice. Prioritizing the voices of formerly incarcerated people, those working on the front lines, and those whose ideas challenge our preconceptions of what criminal justice looks like, this conference will bring new perspectives for those who have long been working against mass incarceration and for those new to the struggle. Information = [email protected] or visit our website at www.prismjustice.org.

Fiction Fun! Reads ScoopFriday, Jan. 26, 7:00 p.m. in the Guild Room. The selec-tion for January is Scoop, by Evelyn Waugh (1938), a novel included by the Modern Library in its list of the best hundred of the century. Scoop has sometimes been given the subtitle A Novel of Journalists. Its “pitiless realism” displays many of the prejudices of the 1930s, but its mockery of the commercial press and “fake news” is far from dated. Information = Amanda Perez, 626.583.2765 or [email protected].

Taizé EucharistSunday, Feb. 4, 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Join us for beautiful meditative prayers, song, scrip-ture, silence and community; walk the labyrinth during or after the service. Information = [email protected].
