THE HILLTYPEThe redesign of Ningbo

Grand Theatre

Ningbo Grand TheatreArchitectural Design (6--Large Scale Building)Site: Jiangbei district, NingboSite area: 55,000 m2

March 2013--May 2013

Ancient Greek Theater at Epidauros is the origin of the human theatre, the design itself is concise: people digged the mountain to form a semicircle Theater form and they could sit on the stairs. This design can not only meet the need of watching the show but also make full use of the natural conditions to create excellent experiences to light for audiences.

Cutting

The existing site is a semicircular peninsula with three sides surrounded by river. In order to achieve the design concept HILLTYPE, the plan starts from the decomposition of the site plane.Firstly, in the middle of the site, the plan cuts out a square plane. Then the shape of the residual site plane seems to be a piece of flat with three angles. After lifting the three Angles, we get the inner performance space. Finally, cutting the turnup pieces, we get the public area with stairs on the roof.

This Wooden Architecture Museum is a house that combines the modern and ancient architectures. The museum is also a space to introduce the history of ancient Chinese architectures and display some typical structural details of them. At the same time, the house itself embodys a creative idea of combining the ancient and modern architectures.

With the perfect road system around the site, the museum can be easily reached and knowed, which is also the advantage of the site.

Due to its specific location, the architecture with the vegetation around it plays an important role in connecting the different function zooms and stimulating the vitality of this area.

15According to the function of the museum, a large amount of open space in this architecture is needed to satisfy the requirement of exhibition.Because of this, the architectural frame with long-distance span is designed, which can help to move the core traffic and interior structure out of the exhibition space and keep it clean.

The Zigzag style roof is not only an adventage on lighting, but as its free opening and closing abilities, it is beneficial for energy conservation.

The inspiration of the Wooden House in the Wooden Architecture Museum comes from troditional architecture form in China, which is a way to recall the spirit of the Chinese ancient architecture. It absorbs and simplifies some distinctive elements from the ancient Chinese architectures:pillar, dougong and roof.

The roof consists of two different parts. This double-layer structure imitates the form of ceilings in ancient Chinese architectures and contributes to air circulation.

THE SUSPENSIONThe transformation design for the

Transformation of student community in Ningbo University of Technology

Graduation ProjectSite: student community of NBUTSite area: 42,000m2

Sep. 2013--Dec. 2013

Determinant layout results in sunshine spacing between two buildings, which does not make full use of the area, only being utilized for roads and accessory greening.

A large number of plate-type buildings lead to unsatisfying consequences: monotonous entire space, blocked students' sight, similar sceneries from different angles of view, and the lack of the possibility of meeting and communicating for students. The lack of recreational facilities, without a platform for students to take exercise, limites the integrated development of themselves in their campus lives.

Ground landscape design reflect the deep understanding about the scale of humans and the accessibility for the disable.

This group of buildings is suspended above the surface of the earth, and at the same time, it is closely linked with the ground, being formed based on the environment of the site and also shaping the ground through the morphology, shadow and visual impact. Therefore, the two elements are mutual infiltrations and associated entities. Public spaces are interwoven with the bottom, surroundings and main parts of the buildings, which contain all kinds of sports and leisure activities.

and its capacity of people, the plan pursues a larger landscape, more sports venues, more open communication spaces, and more various life experiences.

The plan makes better use of the limited site area, which is based on three dimensions, regarding it as a spacial block and dividing it vertically into three layers: residence layer, activity layer, and landscape layer.Section 1-1

Paths Of The Sight

The adjacent building entities are interweaving, colliding and integrating with each other, forming an amount of sharing platforms. The building group becomes united because of the aerial corridors which connect the monocases.

the walking paths are relevant with the environment, passing through the courtyards. The scenery varys with the change of the viewers' position.

The dominant wind direction of this site is from southeast to northwest. The main body of the building leaves openings so that the wind could easily across the whole building. In addition, due to the "bottom elevated" design, it has a good ventilation performance.

All the entities areinterwoven with each other, occasionally creating many passageways of sight. In the whole building, the space is flowing and the line of sight is continuous.
