For all other students: please read the course descriptions and mark the one that you think is right for you. We will then invite you to take a placement test so that we can best meet your needs.

New! Semester Courses8 Weekly Sessions

MechinaThis course is designed for students with no prior Hebrew knowledge and will introduce the foundations of Hebrew language. Students will learn the Hebrew alphabet, including vowels which facilitate reading at the introductory level. Students will also learn to recognize and write cursive Hebrew script. Beginners 1 This course is designed for students who have completed the Mechina course. The focus of the Beginners 1 course is to continue strengthening the foundations of Hebrew taught in Mechina, with further development of reading and writing skills. We will also start building oral expressions.

Beginners 2 This course is a continuation of the Beginners 1 and Mechina courses. The goal for the course is to further enrich the structure and the foundations of Hebrew through oral, reading and writing skills. Students will build their confidence in mastery and usage of basic Hebrew.

Yearly Courses22 weekly sessions

Level 1This course is designed for students who can read basic Hebrew with minimum comprehension. The course will facilitate the development of reading and writing skills, with particular emphasis on use of the present tense. The goal of this course is to build students’ oral expression through the use of new vocabulary and simple grammatical rules.

Level 2This course is designed for students who can speak and read simple Hebrew sentences using the present tense and have a mastery of recognizing and writing in cursive script. Level 2 students will add the past tense to their Hebrew tool box and work to achieve greater fluency and confidence in verbal expression. Additional grammatical rules will be introduced in this course.

Level 3This course is designed for students who are able to express themselves in Hebrew using simple sentences in both the present and past tenses. Students in this class will develop reading comprehension through paragraphs and short stories and focus on gaining mastery of the future tense. A primary goal of this course is to develop self-confidence in oral communication and improve reading fluency.

Level 4 This course is designed for students with the ability to express themselves in more complex sentences. The class will utilize Hebrew newspapers, songs, stories, and more to advance reading and conversational skills. Students will also build Hebrew writing skills with special attention to grammatical rules.

Mitkadmim 1 – מתקדמים

This course is designed for students who have solid skills in oral expression, grammar, and written comprehension. The course seeks to strengthen and deepen understanding of the Hebrew language through the use of Hebrew newspapers, various media, and several genres of literary texts. Students will advance their skills in all proficiency areas, extending their ability to converse comfortably, read diverse styles, express opinions orally, and write well in Modern Hebrew.

Mitkadmim 2 – מתקדמים

This course is designed for students who have a high level of language proficiency. A custom-designed course, it utilizes articles, stories, creative writing, and poems of contemporary Israeli writers. Students will delve into current Israeli culture and news through Israeli satellite TV and the internet. In addition, students will read and analyze Israeli newspapers.
