MESSAGE FROM FR. RICK MENSAJE DE P. RICK Dear Friends, THIS Monday is Memorial Day – we honor and remember all those who have died in military service for the United States. The parish office will be closed. Also, only one mass – at 11:15 am – will be celebrated. I am looking forward to next weekend- all our pews will be available for you to sit (with social distance). And our song books will be back in the pews! We are still requesting that everyone keep their masks on while in church – for a few more weeks. Thinking about getting vaccinated? All those 12 years and over – go to CITIFIELD in Flushing Meadow today! They are open 7 days a week and 24 hours a day! Please… don’t wait any longer! ST BARTS SCHOOL As you can see, our school building on Judge Street is beginning to be covered with scaffolding. In about 3 weeks we will begin a major renovation on this building – perhaps for the first time since being built 100 years ago! We will be : pointing every brick; changing the roof; renovating the parapet walls; changing all 227 windows and upgrading our heating system with a new boiler and pumps. It’s a big job which should be complete by February 2022. The projected cost will be 2.1 million dollars. We have obtained a loan from the diocese and we have the ability to re-pay this loan thanks to our rentals and your continued generosity to the parish. Queridos amigos, ESTE lunes es el Día de los Caídos: honramos y recordamos a todos aquellos que han muerto en el servicio militar de los Estados Unidos. La oficina parroquial estará cerrada. CATECHISTS AND ASSISTANTS Last Sunday we asked for help – and as always, our parishioners generously responded! 18 people came forward with interest in our faith formation program as catechists and assistants! We are still accepting those who would like to help in this important Ministry! Please email Sr Lucy for an appointment. [email protected] FAITH FORMATION Students currently enrolled in our faith formation program and
NEW STUDENTS can now register for next year. Space will be
limited when we begin classes again in October (due to COVID) so you should enroll your child immediately. Registration is quick and easy- go to our parish website: stbartselmhurst.org Registration fee is only $80 – starting July 1st it will be $100. All families should now register their children who need to receive their first holy communion or confirmation. NEW ALTAR SERVERS More than 20 young people have volunteered to be altar servers! This is a wonderful blessing for our parish. Keep them in your prayers- they are now having four weeks of training and should be ready to start in June! FOOD ASSISTANCE Over the past 14 months (since COVID) we have distributed more than $50,000 in food vouchers to our registered parishioners in need. The money comes from former parishioners and school graduates as well as current parishioners of St Bart’s. Any registered and active parishioner who needs help purchasing food should email us and Let us know your name, registration number and the amount of people living in your household. Your parish is ready to assist you. NEED A LETTER FROM YOUR CHURCH? In order to give letters of recommendation, letters attesting to character, sponsor certificates, and other documents that may have legal or religious purposes, it is required that persons requesting those documents be registered and be active members of St Bartholomew Parish at least three months prior to your request. We can not provide any of these documents to people not registered in the parish. PARISH OFFICE Our office is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. COUPLES GROUP IS BACK!: We are pleased to announce that the monthly couples group is starting again! The first meeting will take place on Sunday, June 13th immediately following the mass at 1 pm. Lunch will be provided and Virtus trained volunteers will be with your children. We will be meeting in the school gym and all COVID precautions will be taken. The entire experience will last less than 90 minutes, and lunch will be provided—free! All couples are invited to sign-up whether you are married in the church, married civilly or living together. We welcome you to grow in your faith and in your love for each other. For the month of June, we are only accepting 25 couples! After more than 15 months of COVID almost all of us know someone who has died from this virus. It is time for us to appropriately remember them with the celebration of mass for the one-year anniversary. Due to COVID, we never celebrated Father Gildea becoming a Monsignor. Also, we weren’t able to celebrate his 80th birthday this past June. We have established an educational scholarship fund in Msgr Gildea’s honor! This scholarship will assist any REGISTERED PRACTICING Catholic family from St Barts parish who would like to transfer their child from public school to St Bartholomew Catholic Academy. It is our hope that each year we can distribute up to $20,000 in scholarships to our parish children who need it. Those donating $250 and above will be invited to a cocktail reception at St Bart’s Academy in October! Catholic education helps change the future of a child! Would you like to contribute to this fund in Msgr Gildea’s honor?
