Mrs. N. NAYEEMA TABASSUM SHIRAJ

Associate Professor of English (FROM 1990 to 2018)

When I attended the interview in this college my eldest son was 50 days old. Since then till

date this college has been my second home now with more than 5000 thousand relatives in this

benign campus. I had the privilege of teaching the first batch of 100 B.Com students in the year

1992, when the evening college was established.

Page 13: LIVE WIRE MARCH 2018 ISSUE edition 2018...LIVE WIRE MARCH 2018 ISSUE TEACHER COORDINATORS 1. Dr. P. LALITHA (FN Session) 2. Mrs. MUSARATH (AN Session) STUDENT EDITORS: 1. FATHIMA SUMAIYA

I am still a learner as far as the religious teachings and lectures in the Masjid are concerned.

There is always so much more to learn. Learning of course is a very rewarding experience. I

have worked under many Principals, namely Mrs. Shenaz, Dr. Salma Salahuddin, Dr. Sanjeeda

Harris and Dr. Shanaz Ahmed. We have had many illustrious Correspondents, very supportive

Members of the Management and extremely helpful Colleagues.

Every person around me is a book from whom I can learn many valuable lessons.

Most of us in the college had a unique ‘problem’ with our correspondent l.ate Mrs. Jahanara

Husain. It was almost impossible to greet her first. She used to be the first person to greet us our

satisfaction remained only in responding to her greeting. I tried hard for many months to greet

her first and at last succeeded only once. She was instrumental in establishing the photocopying

shops and many other amenities for the staff and students.

The Munificent Management had been adding infrastructure facilities year after year. Their

efforts to add greenery to the college has drawn encomiums from the distinguished visitors.

The healthy rivalry between the various departments of our college, also is responsible for the

steady development of the college. The incentives from the Management to the staff and students

encourage them to excel in their respective fields.

When I think of my partners in learning, my dear students, I bow down to the maker in

gratitude. My aim had mostly been to help them to learn by themselves and become lifelong

learners. Those who needed special attention and a little extra time were taken care of by me just

like all other teachers. I too pray for my past, present and future students just like all my other

colleagues in this college.

After nearly 29 years, I must bid adieu to this great institution with a sense of satisfaction

and happiness. I have tried my best to discharge my duties conscientiously. I must record one

unique fact before I sign off. My students many a time feel that I am very strict. They will start

loving me sincerely a few months later. Just like all those fortunate souls in the teaching

profession, it is a great bliss to meet old students after a few decades when they introduce their

parents in law, husband and children to us.

My students may score high marks depending on their concentration and hard work. But one

sure thing is that all of them would be, happy individuals, spreading happiness and peace all

around them. They are very intelligent and capable of handling any difficult situation with

confidence and ease.

I wish them all the very best in life. Though I don’t know about their various future

endeavours, my prayers are for the success of every endeavour of their life. I thank each member

of the family of JBAS sincerely for everything they have done for me. As I retire in about a

week, I remember the founders of TassimBeevi Abdul Khader College for women,

KilakaraiJanabMarhoom, B.S. Abdul Rahman Sahib and the founder of our prestigious Justice

Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women (Autonomous), Late Justice Basheer Ahmed

SayeedSaheb and the first chairman of our college HajaniFathimaAkhtharsaheba with a deep

sense of gratitude and admiration. Almighty has blessed me abundantly through all the three of

them. May Almighty Allah grant them the highest abode in JannathulFirdouse.Ameen.

Finally one sentence of farewell to all my past and present students. If ever I had hurt or scolded

you, I seek your forgiveness. I trust you know that I don’t have any personal grudge against

anyone. Even if I had hurt or scolded you, I am like a doctor or surgeon causing pain in order to

cure. I am sure all my students will love me more and more as years pass by. May the Almighty

Allah Bless us all.

THE ANSWER

On his first day in office, as a president Abraham Lincoln entered to give his Inaugural Address,

one man stood up. He was a rich aristocrat. He said, “Mr. Lincoln you should not forget that your

father used to make shoes for my family”. And the whole senate laughed; they thought, they had

made a fool of Lincoln.

But certain people are made of totally different mettle. Lincoln looked at the man directly in the

eye and said “Sir, I know that my father used to make shoes for your family, and there will be

many other here because he made shoes; the way nobody else can. He was a creator. His shoes

were not just shoes; he poured his whole soul into them. I want to ask you, have you got any

complaint? Because, I know, how to make shoes too. If you have any complaint, I can make

another pair of shoes for you. But as far as I know, nobody has ever complained about my

father’s shoes. He was a genius, a great creator and I am proud of him.

The whole senate was struck dumb they could not understand what kind of a man Lincoln was.

He was proud of his father because he did his job so well that, not even a single complaint was

ever heard.

REMEMBER: No one can hurt you without your consent. “It is not what happens to us that hurt

us, it is our response that hurt us”.

REFLECTIONS: “Everything we want in life is waiting for us outside, of our comfort zone and

inside our effort zone”.

THE SKY IS LIKE YOUR BRAIN

The sky is plain and simple like a brain.

You have to allow the thoughts and ideas into them.

Like the sky allows the birds, airplane and rockets to fly,

And the brain allows the thoughts and ideas to flow by.

If you don't allow the ideas into your brain,

Your life will be in vain.

And if the sky doesn't allow the birds, rockets and airplane to fly,

Nobody will like the sky.

LOVE YOURSELF.....

When i was a child.

I always wanted to be a bird,

Because they are free from studies,

Learning and the scary one exams.

They fly high and fast around the world.

But i was wrong, because birds to have test,

And exams from babyhood.

There are obstacles to flying around the world.

Even though they are so tiny in size,

Sometimes they end up dead.

Now i dont want to be like a BIRD,

But i want to be a HUMAN(me),

I want it because i like it.

When I was a child.

I wanted to be like a fish.

Because they are cute and beautiful.

They are free from corruption and

They don't need moneyand passport to travel from one place to another.

They swim faster than humans.

But now i don't want to be a FISH,

i want to be a HUMAN(me).

Even though fish doesn't need money,

They need food and oxygen to live.

Also they don't need passport to travel,

But they need energy and strength to swim far.

I don't want it because i don't like it.

But i want it because i love it.

There is one common word that all the birds, fishand even human known.

That is LOVE.

No life will be enthusiastic and painful without LOVE.

So LOVE YOURSELF who you are now and forever!

What is women equality according to you?

The answer I would get back would be something like being able to take decisions regarding

their future as equals to men, choosing the career of their own, being independent, having no

boundaries, etc...

But is a woman really given equal status?

I would get a "yes" as an answer from most of the urban women, but what is the reality of a

women in a society?

Stating my personal opinion, I think women are just used as an ingredient of glamour and

attraction in the society. for example : why on earth, an all men's product like shaving gel and

razor have a woman in the advertisement. Just to add glamour, isn't it? men's deodorant, men's

hair gel, bikes etc all have women in their advertisements to add glamour and attraction.

Have you ever thought that a woman is considered classy and sophisticated when, she is in

minimal clothing, whereas a man is classy in a three piece suit? We are so blinded by the media

that we are 'so very ready' to be puppets in it's hands forgetting the basic values instilled in us by

our faith and customs. If a male hosts an event, he is criticized on the basis of his performance.

Page 17: LIVE WIRE MARCH 2018 ISSUE edition 2018...LIVE WIRE MARCH 2018 ISSUE TEACHER COORDINATORS 1. Dr. P. LALITHA (FN Session) 2. Mrs. MUSARATH (AN Session) STUDENT EDITORS: 1. FATHIMA SUMAIYA

But if a female dose the same then she is criticized on her dressing sense her choice of shoes etc,

Is this the equality which the society provides?

In this race of glamour and attraction, if a women decides to keep her protected by cowering

herself modestly. She is called by names as Behenji, and if she has veiled herself, she is

considered oppressed. If a woman can display herself freely then why is a women who has

dressed up modestly or veiled herself is QUESTIONED. According to me if a woman has a right

display herself then she has the right to cover herself too.
