Celebrating Sporting Excellence at LBHS
by Mr C. Williams
On Friday, 27th July, Year 8 Superstar Student Tim Marendy competed in the dual sanctioned NSW CHS (public school) and NSW ALL SCHOOLS (public & private school) Cross Country Carnival at Eastern Creek. These are the best runners from all of NSW and we are very proud to say Tim finished 2nd in NSW CHS 13s and 3rd in NSW ALL SCHOOLS 13s. Tim was selected to compete in the AUSTRALIAN ALL SCHOOLS Nationals Cross Country Carnival in QLD next
month- a tremendous honour. Tim's dedication and hard work has shone through and he is very deserved of his achievements.
From all of Liverpool Boys High School, congratulations Tim!
THIS WEEK’S TOP STORIES
Young Change Agents by Ms K.Lambert In Week 2 of Term 3 a group of Year 10 students and the Student Leadership Team competed in a social entrepreneurship program, 'Young Change Agents'. The program, designed for 10-18 year olds, helped the boys see problems as opportunities.
The two-and-a-half day program provided the boys with the tools to think creatively, build skills in critical thinking and communication, and empowered them to believe that they are good enough to be entrepreneurs, leaders and world-changers. They learnt how to create a social start-up and used tools and techniques that are utilised in real start-up incubators.
At the conclusion of the program, all boys engaged in a 'pitch' to industry professionals where they had to sell their idea. The winning team, Eco Chairs, consisted of Robert Roshka, Maher Mahdi and Yashar Khamissi, who will continue to work with Young Change Agents to further develop their idea.
Congratulations to all boys who participated in this program.

Creative Arts Excursion by Ms M. Abboud
Colour My World and Big Picture students enjoyed a beautiful day at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA). The students began their day by having morning tea with a view of Sydney Harbour. The students then spent some time looking at the Chinese artist, Sun Xun’s, exhibit. They were able to view the large glow-in-the-dark artworks inspired by Australian animals and the visibility of stars in the outback. This was followed by viewing a number of Sun Xun’s 3D stop-motion films in the dark rooms at the MCA. Indigenous Australian artist, John Mawurndjul, had also created an exhibit of artworks, where he used traditional line painting, called “rarrk”, to tell the story of Kuninjku culture. The CMW and Big Picture students were able to look at different forms of Aboriginal art in this exhibition and gain a greater understanding of Kininjku spirituality. To end the day, the boys enjoyed eating lunch and ice cream at Circular Quay.

Creative Careers Expo
by Ms M. Abboud
On Thursday, 16th August, a group of Year Ten and College students attended the Creative Careers Expo at Campbelltown Arts Centre. The morning session involved a panel of successful artists from Western Sydney speaking about their journey to success in the creative arts industries. The artists discussed how to achieve recognition in the arts industries, despite facing financial and cultural barriers. This was followed by an information session where boys could speak to a number of colleges, TAFEs and universities regarding courses in the creative arts industry. The day finished with a one-on-one meet and greet with the artists over coffee and lunch. The artists and the students shared their experiences with each other. They talked about local events and different opportunities to share their creativity. Overall, it was a great day for the senior students to gain information about career options and pathways after school.

English News By Ms K.Lambert
New Stage 6 English Syllabus Network
Liverpool Boys High School was successful in gaining a grant to develop a new Stage 6 English Syllabus network. In order to meet the needs of our boys and their learning in English, the English faculty contacted a variety of boys schools throughout the South Western Sydney region to collaborate and share their understanding of, and resources for, the new syllabus. The first meeting was held in Week 1 of Term 3. To launch the network, we were joined by keynote speaker and boys education expert, Dr Ian Lillico, from the Boys Forward Institute. We were also joined by members from Punchbowl Boys High School. The night was a great success with the English faculty feeling more confident about planning and preparing programs that will suit the specific needs of boys. The next network meeting will be held in Week 7. Stay tuned…

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) @ Liverpool Boys HS Anytime, Anywhere!
Parent information session 11 September 2018 @ 6pm
When will this happen? From 2019, it will be compulsory for each year 8 to 12 student to have their own digital device to bring to school every day.
Why is LBHS doing this? Because in the modern day of learning, our boys need access to technology to complement their learning. As adults we have access Anytime, Anywhere – why shouldn’t our children?
Why can’t my son use the computers at school? Your son can still use the computers at school, particularly with specialised subjects such as Multimedia and Design and Technology. However, school resources are limited and technology is required all the time, not just some of the time. By having BYOD, students can access information and complete work Anytime, Anywhere. What digital devices are permitted?
Tablets (iPads, Androids, Galaxy etc)
Laptops
5
Can my son’s mobile be used as device? No – a mobile phone has limitations. Yes it can access information but it is difficult to enter information and edit. A tablet or laptop is more appropriate for school use.
How much money should I spend? PLEASE only spend between $200 - $350. Expensive tablets and laptops ARE NOT recommended and are not needed.
What devices are recommended? · Chromebooks · Samsung Galaxy tablet
· Lenovo tablet · Laptops under $350
What will my son be doing on this device? Researching, using Google Apps, Office 365 and other online applications.
We can’t afford to buy my son a device. Please contact the school – all information will remain confidential. Perhaps make this a Christmas present or upcoming birthday present. This device will be a worthwhile investment for your son’s education.
How can we find out more information?
Attend the BYOD Information Session 11 September 2018 @ 6pm
