God looks at what is ‘within’ first….

The life of David – an overview• Israel's first ever King (Saul) is rejected by God for continual disobedience (1 Sam

15:22-23) • God sends the Prophet to the house of Jesse to anoint another as king (1 Sam 16) • All of Jesse's sons are rejected - ' The Lord does not look at the things man looks at.

Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart' (1 Sam 16:7).

• Eventually, it is discovered there is another son (David) and he is chosen (1 Sam 16:13)

• David enters the service of Saul and becomes one of his armour bearers (1 Sam 16:21)

• David stands up against the Philistine giant (Goliath) and slays him (1 Sam 17) • David stays faithful to Saul even though Saul's jealousy goes out of control (1 Sam

18-31) • Eventually, Saul kills himself in battle and David is officially made king over Judah

and then Israel (2 Sam 2 and 5) • David's reign consists of great victories, personal loss, major mistakes on his part,

repentance, writing most of the Psalms and more....(2 Samuel) • David dies and his son Solomon succeeds him (1 Kings 2:10)

David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes

this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies

of the living God?” (1 Sam 17:26)

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will

be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:2)

‘reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead and he fell facedown on

the ground' (1 Sam 17:49)

'But David said to Saul, "Your servant has been keeping his Father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it

by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear - this man will be like one of

them" (1 Sam 17:34-36)

'Take that talent from him and give it to the one who has the Ten. For everyone who has (productivity) will be

given more and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have (productivity), even what he has will be

taken from him (Matthew 25:28-29)
