Argument I

A regular fitness program can cause an increase in the immune system

“All you need to do is walk for a half hour every day or find time to hit the gym a few times every week. By speeding up the cells in your immune system that fight off bacteria, you can get healthier in no time.” –FitDay

Page 13: lIVING fIT

Argument I (Cont) .Some may say that there

is no proof of fitness effecting the immune system to an effective extent.

Page 14: lIVING fIT

Argument I part II

“The most exciting finding in the field of exercise immunology is that positive immune changes take place during moderate exercise. People who exercise at a moderate level experience fewer days of sickness from the common cold and other Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI). And less competitive athletes and people following lower key exercise regimens have enhanced immune reactions to infection.” –Roy Stevenson

Page 15: lIVING fIT

Argument II

Exercise on a regular basis can cause an increase in mood

“Gain confidence”

Page 16: lIVING fIT

Argument II (cont)

Take your mind off worries. Exercise is a distraction that can get you away from the cycle of negative thoughts that feed anxiety and depression.” –Mayo Clinic”

The counter-argument would be that working out is stressful and just causes more stress by needing to worry about keeping on top of it.

Page 17: lIVING fIT

Argument II part II “The word "exercise" may make you think of

running laps around the gym. But exercise includes a wide range of activities that boost your activity level to help you feel better. Certainly running, lifting weights, playing basketball and other fitness activities that get your heart pumping can help. But so can gardening, washing your car, or strolling around the block and other less intense activities. “-Mayo Clinic

Page 18: lIVING fIT

Argument III

Living a fit and healthy lifestyle can expand the life span of the average person.

Page 19: lIVING fIT

Argument III (cont)

Recent studies show “key researchers found weight in relation to height (body mass index (BMI) = weight/height2) was twice as likely to shorten the survival of the elderly when low (BMI less than 18.5) than high (above 24.0). This increased to nine times more likely when combined with limited physical function.”-Machines Like Us

Some may say that exercise isn’t needed to stay healthy

Page 20: lIVING fIT

Argument III part II

Studies show “Even small changes involving modest regular physical aerobic and strengthening activities for several days a week could make a substantial difference in health outcomes for the elderly.”-Machines Like Us

Page 21: lIVING fIT

Argument III part III

.Muscle atrophy is a major problem with the elderly as with physical ability, exercise can preserve these abilities and functions through ones golden years.
