Off Brittany’s Côte de Granit Rose – so named for its reddish granite rock
– there is a stunning private island where this 19th-century château can be found. The whole island is available to hire for between €12,000 and €15,000 per week.
Built in 1885 for Noble Prize for Literature winner Henryk Sienkiewicz, Costaérès is a romantic destination. On the ground floor of the castle there
is a large reception hall, two bedrooms, a fitted kitchen and bathroom, and two terraces. A spiral staircase leads to a panorama room, which has fantastic views of the Sept-Îles and leads up again to a small tower room.
There are two more bedrooms with bathrooms on the third floor and a further bedroom on the fourth floor. In the basement, you will find a sauna and a fitness room with three gym machines, while
outside there is a heated swimming pool.
There’s a well-equipped kitchen and a local chef is also available on request to prepare all meals. Alternatively, head across to the mainland to sample the French cuisine in the various local restaurants. The island has two sandy beaches to enjoy and more than 200 different trees, shrubs and flower species to delight nature lovers.

fishing village of Ploumanac’h, which has a wonderful beach and a coastal path leading to the seaside resort of Perros-Guirec popular with walkers. From Perros-Guirec there are ferry boat trips to the Sept-Îles, which are famous for their abundance of sea birds.
Île de Chantemesle is one of the many islands on the River seine in Île-de-France. A small paradise of about 25 acres, it has two charming villas built in the local style that can be rented for €5,500-€8,500 per week, depending on the season and number of guests.
With space for 12 people, it is the perfect holiday destination for a large family or group of friends. Recently renovated, the main house has a comfortable living room with a big fireplace, five spacious bedrooms and five bathrooms.
If you wish to dine on the island, there is a fully equipped kitchen where you can prepare meals, or a chef is available on request.
There is a Victorian veranda where you can soak up the sun and a park, an orchard and a farmyard to
explore. For the more active, there is a swimming pool and a tennis court, and two motorboats are available to use. In addition, no fewer than eight golf courses are within a 30-minute drive
The island is between the villages of Vétheuil and La Roche-Guyon and the outskirts of Paris can be reached in only 45 minutes, making the capital easily accessible from the island.
