Electricity helps our world!

·Electricity keeps our food at the right temperature: Fridges and Cookers

·Electricity entertains us: Computers, TVs, Stereos and Games consoles

·Electricity makes all kinds of medical equipment work: the dentist’s drill and the doctor’s heart monitor

·It lights our world at night: Street lights, lights in our homes

·It keeps us warm in cold weather: Heating systems

Key safety issues:Pylons and overhead power linesNever carry long objects, such as fishing rods, or fly kites or model aeroplanes where they can touch or go near overhead electricity lines. The electricity can travel down them and through you to the ground. This could cause serious burns and electric shocks which can kill you.

Electricity can even jump gaps so don’t go anywhere near the wires.

Have a walk around your home. Are there any potential electrical dangers that you could tell an adult about?

You could also design a poster warning of the dangers of electricity or giving safety tips to stick up in your house somewhere!
