What an amazing term we have had so far….Our Fundraising efforts have been nothing short of phenomenal. We are so thankful to our wonderful Governing Council who have worked tirelessly to organise and run two extremely successful events. Our Bunnings BBQ on the 31st of July was great fun and luckily we scored a lovely sunny day and lots of hungry customers. We raised just over $1000. Saturday night’s Red, Roast and Rhythms showed us just how successful we can be when we work together collaboratively. The community support shown on Saturday night, reminds me just how much we are a valued and integral link in our community. Thanks so much to all of our Governing Council members, fundraising sub-committee and families who donated and or attended our major fundraiser for 2016. Thanks also to Will Goodings, 5AA breakfast announcer for generously giving us his time to MC the event. Also thanks again so much for kind generosity of our platinum sponsors, Kloses Supermarkets and Hughes Constructions, along with all of our other local sponsors. All of this amazing work helped us raise over $11,000 for our kindy. We will use these funds to enhance our mud kitchen area, up-grade our resources and construct a new fence and garden area. Happy days!
Sustainability Learning in Action Our sustainable learning has been enhanced with a visit from 9 volunteers from Conserva-tion Volunteers Australia and a worm farm from Bunnings. So many awesome learning experiences for us all to help us con-nect and care for or environment. we have begun looking at reducing our contribution to landfill by collecting our plastic and paper wrappers from our lunches each day. We have begun collecting these and will count and tally the total wrappers and rubbish each day and each week. our aim is to have zero rubbish at lunch times. This initiative will help you save money, provide healthier foods for your child and help reduce our impact on the environment. It’s a win/win for all of us. Please he lp us to work with your child to help send a nude (wrapper /rubbish free) lunch to kindy everyday.
Curriculum in Action Our kindy program has been so exciting and full of so many interesting and engaging learning opportu-
nities. We have been looking at gender equity as a result of some conversations we have had with children sharing their
theories on what girls and boys can do at kindy and in the workforce. We have spent time theorising and challenging these
ideas and understandings through discussions around where girls and boys can play and what girls and boys can do for a
living. We want to enable our children to be kind to to each other and develop and understanding that gender doesn't define
ability or power. We have also focussed many conversations around using our correct names at
kindy. Having this agreement in place, sets our children up with an understanding that names,
other than our own can hurt other children’s feelings. All of this supports our term three focus of
‘Developing healthy minds, attitudes and bodies’.
To help make our learning visible, we have displayed our learning map on large sheets of pa-
per on the PVC blinds outside on our veranda. It is incredible to see what learning occurs at
kindy. The idea of this map is for us all to see the emergent and planned learning experiences
and add to them each week. The emergent, child led curriculum we run at kindy is all about
listening and responding to children. It doesn’t easily fit into neat little boxes but it is rich, meaningful and authentic and also
covers all of the outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework.
Map Makers In response to Nicole Ross (Landon’s mummy) coming into kindy and sharing her expertise and
knowledge of maps with us, we have decided to try and map our kindy community. You should all have got a let-
ter sent home by your child, asking you to do some homework with your child in the coming week. We are asking
that you work with your child to create a map of your place to kindy. There is no template, no right or wrong. The
aim is that you spend time with your child, creating the map, thinking about land-
marks and rough directions and towns ( if you reside out of Lobethal). we will display
all of these maps and then map where we live. Such great opportunities for us to de-
velop our geographical, literacy and mathematical understandings.
Thanks again for your ongoing support.

Thanks so much to every one who gave up
their precious time to help sell sausages at

Toy Catalogues
You should have received via your pockets 2 toy
catalogues. Every year we pass them onto fami-
lies and they can make Christmas shopping very
easy. Kindy receives a percentage of all sales.
It’s easy just order online through each individual
website and nominate Lobethal Community
Kindergarten as your preferred Centre/School.
Your order will be delivered to your home address
in time for Christmas.

Community News Kindy Blog
One of the ways we make learning visible to the wider community is
through our blog. We will share snippets of our adventures at bush-
land park each week, and highlight all the amazing learning experi-
ences your children are creating. If you are interested in our nature
play journey over the past few years, the old posts make some great
reading too. We encourage you to leave feedback/comments/
questions on the posts, it is a great way of us showing family and
wider community voice and connections in our program.

Bunnings BBQ
Just a quick reminder to ensure the front door is not left open
in the morning arrival or afternoon pick up rush. Children can
easily pass through without being seen and we need to
ensure all children are kept safe at these busy times.

What a busy term of learning !
The children’s interest in, and knowledge of Maps and Mapping continues to astound me.
Last week they created a big chalk map in the park with Tobi’s Mum, Liz. Katara and Raff even
had to add Swan Reach and Young Husband to the map! We look forward to sharing your
maps from home (and hope that the postie has delivered the majority of letters by now!) Our
walk to the Post Office and the Florist was part of our continuing emphasis on Community links.
Our lovely florist, Emma gave the children a very special gift of a succulent farm so that we
can propagate our own succulents back at kindy! She also gave us some poppies to paint.
Several children have become interested in “fixing” and or “dismantling” objects at kindy. This
“real work” is fabulous for fine motor, problem solving and intellectual stretch. We would like to
extend this by being able to pull apart some machinery/appliances. If you have anything suit-
able to donate to our “tinker table” we would really appreciate it. Our Making and Construc-
tion Table is very popular at the moment so we would appreciate cardboard boxes and bits
and pieces from your recycling!
Our Conservation Volunteers will be back in September to help us create a butterfly garden
and also a music wall. For this we are looking for donations of native/butterfly loving plants
and also anything suitable for a music wall—bells, old baking equipment, bike wheels, bits of
old instruments—anything that has the potential to make music.
Staff recently had the opportunity to engage in professional learning with Niki Buchan—a lead-
ing expert in Nature Play. Our collaboration with Niki will continue to drive our Nature Play
journey and provide us with some exciting opportunities too! Part of our work with Niki will see
us implementing some new floorbooks—one on Projects, and another on our Community
(which will highlight all of the learning we do out and about ie. Visiting, schools and Restvale,
local walks, contributions from Community—such as the amazing support we received for our
major fundraiser and the recent work with Conservation Australia)
We have been busy collecting documentation, photos and work samples for Learning Journey
books. We would really appreciate these books back so that we can add all of the amazing
learning to them!
