TOWN: LOBOC, BOHOL
MAPPERS: BONCALES, RENE
CUARESMA, CHRISTINE ROSE
SILVA, NADINE MARIE
MAY 16, 2014 - FRIDAY
The GPS road mapping for the town of Loboc started on a
Friday morning of May 16, 2014. We were first welcomed by the
town’s head MPDC Officer, Engr. Villamo around 8:30 am. It
was decided that the mapping will be done boundary to boundary
per barangay accompanied by Ms. Rosemarie Toledo, MPDC
assistant head officer, through two motorcycles provided by the
municipality (FIGURE 2). We will also stay at the Digal Inn, a
private inn owned by the brgy. Captain of Poblacion and our
meals ordered at the Tres Hermanas eatery
located at the town centre, everything in account
to the municipality of Loboc.
Through the GPS unit, Garmin – Oregon
550T (FIGURE 1), we finished mapping 6 out of
28 barangays namely, Brgy. Jimilian, Villaflor,
Ugpong, Canlasid, Calunasan Sur and Norte and
Oy with Rene as the group’s driver, Nadine as
the unit holder and pointer and Christine as the
point recorder (FIGURE 3). By observation, the
mapping during the day became difficult
because of the rain which made the steep roads
slippery and very dangerous, we also had a
difficulty identifying the boundary of some
barangays especially those with no guide. Our
arse also soar due to the whole day riding on a
bumpy and steep terrain.
By opportunity, the municipality
accommodated us by also letting us try and
savor some of their tourist attractions like a free
ride on the cable car and also take pictures on the beauty around the hilltop which we passed
along the way.

The mapping on the first day ended tiringly around 5:30 pm.
MAY 17, 2014 - SATURDAY
The mapping started around 9:00 am. Same struggles from
the first day were experienced finishing 11 barangays (FIGURE 4)
namely Brgy. Agape, Camaya-an, Valladolid, Poblacion Ondol,
Poblacion Sawang, Alegria, Taytay, Gon-ob, Cambance, Candasag
and Cabadiangan. We were supposed to finish Brgy. Buenavista but
due to the lack of time we missed a part of it which we will have to
map first thing on the morning of the next day.
Through the mapping, we were able to visit the Krus Daku
(FIGURE 5), a shrine often visited by Pilgrims during Semana
Santa (Holy Week), and we had a long road home by passing Lila
after mapping Brgy. Buenavista on the afternoon. We were also
able to experience too many motor slide and mud trekking due to
the heavy rain and very bad earth-typed roads.
MAY 18, 2014 - SUNDAY
We started the Sunday mapping around 10 in the morning
finishing Brgy. Buenavista, first hand. Followed by Brgy. Bugho
(FIGURE 6), Bonbon Upper and Lower to Brgy.
Candabong. Due to the very difficult earth typed roads that
awaited us, we were not able to finish the last 5 barangays
on schedule. Through coordination, we were able to set
another mapping to finish the town on the next Friday of the
week.
By grace, we were able to savor the beauty of the Man-made
forest and took lunch on a nearby house owned by a
government employee and took snacks on the afternoon
accommodated by Brgy. Bonbon Lower’s Kagawad.
We finished the mapping at 5:00 pm taking dinner first
before riding home through Ceres bus lines.

MAY 19, 2014 - MONDAY
Returning back, we started the mapping around
9 in the morning with the same group of people and
guide. We were able to finish Brgy, Gotozon,
Bagumbayan, Bahian and Quinoguitan in the morning
and Brgy. Tigbao in the afternoon till 4:00 pm.
The only struggle encountered was the long and
heavy rain during lunch time making the roads slippery
and dangerous (FIGURE 7). There is also a 3km long
barangay road in Tigbao which is unpassable so we
were forced to walk back and through to it because it’s
a dead end.
To fully enjoy before we head home, we were
allowed by the guide to join and watch the fluvial parade which happens every town fiesta held
at the town’s well known river. Afterwards, we took dinner at the same eatery and headed home
at 7pm via Ceres Bus lines.
