Construction of the Helensvale Library is well under way with business as usual, taking place in demountable facilities behind the Helensvale Community Centre. This has impacted on parking two days of the week. I am investigating extra parking space options. It is my long term vision that the temporary building and amenities be retained for future community use for our ever growing needs. I welcome your ideas in regard to this.
Things are back to a steady flow across the John Muntz Causeway, with delays of the one lane of traffic, no more than a regular traffic light stop in the rest of the city. I have been advised that the new bridge will be approximately 1.5 metres higher than the current crossing, hence, not an all weather bridge as most of us would be expecting. Construction should be finalised within 2 years – weather permitting.
I am very pleased to say that there has been renewed interest in the function of Neighbourhood Watch. Many new residents to our area are not aware of the benefits of joining or forming one of these groups. www.nhwq.com.au is a great place to get information. Prior to the QPS supporting a NHWQ group, certain criteria should be met. This includes the support of 70% of the community in the area of the new group you wish to start, a local Officer-in-Charge of Police and a local District Officer of Police.
Very exciting news for our families in the area - I am proud to inform that my strong lobbying with officers and State Government has seen the approval of the installation of Adizone Outdoor Recreational system, to be constructed at Reserve Road Youth Precinct. I argued consistently for the Division 2 location over other better serviced areas on the Gold Coast. This is an excellent facility for our young ones. To see what is coming, search ‘Adizone’ on You Tube.
