Harley, the 1st Earl of Oxford.

Robert Harley1707— 1753 —Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford was a prominent politician, statesman and patron of the arts. As a preservationist, he was invaluable and used his wealth and power to collect an unparalleled library. Notably he promoted the careers of Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope, and John Gay.
