This BSc builds on the core programme offeredwithin the School of Planning (focusing on urbanplanning and design) and combines it with a focuson property markets, investment decisions and realestate economics. It is accredited by the RoyalInstitute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) andrecognised by the Royal Town Planning Institute(RTPI).

AccreditationThis BSc, if followed by an appropriate Graduate Diploma or MScprogramme, leads to eligibility for professional membership of the TheRoyal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). After graduation you are eligible toapply for the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) whichleads to full professional membership of the Royal Institute of CharteredSurveyors (RICS).

Degree structure

In each year of your degree you will take a number of individualcompulsory modules, normally valued at 0.5 or 1.0 credits, adding up toa total of 4.0 credits for the year. Modules are assessed in the academicyear in which they are taken. A 1.0 credit is considered equivalent to 15credits in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

The programme is structured carefully to equip students with a coherentunderstanding of urbanism and the built environment, with a particularfocus on the role of real estate investment, development and appraisal.Core modules are structured around the three streams of understanding,managing and delivering urban change, with specialist real estatemodules covering real estate economics, management, investment,development and appraisal.

Students will become familiar with theories, methodologies, skills, andtechniques taken from the social science, urban planning and designdisciplines. These aim to develop a capacity for critical thinking,problem solving and creative expression.

In the first two years, students follow eight core modules a year, one ofwhich is directly related to the real estate specialism. The others seek tobuild core knowledge, competencies and skills across the discipline.Students are eligible to apply to study abroad in the second term of yeartwo.

In the final year students specialise in real estate, with four out of eightmodules covering specialist real estate topics.

Your learning

The School of Planning advocates and employs a very interactive,hands-on form of learning. Alongside lectures, seminars and tutorials weinclude field visits, group project work, and laboratory and design worksessions to improve your learning experience.

FieldworkStudents go on two extended field trips during their undergraduatedegree: a European city in their first year and a UK city in their third year.In addition, many modules include fieldwork or site visits as part of thelearning experience.

PlacementIn the third term of the third year, a voluntary two-week work experienceplacement is offered, drawing from our pool of employers.

AssessmentMeans of assessment are balanced throughout the programme with acombination of individual and group work, essays, project work andother skills-based practical work, and examinations.

Your career

This programme enables you to acquire highly transferable knowledgeand skills such as data collection, analysis and presentation, graphicskills, the ability to resolve problems and conflicts, negotiation andmediation, team work and leadership, managing work tasks, preparingand writing professional reports, as well as written, graphic, and oralpresentation skills.

Graduates will be equipped to take up employment in a vast range ofpositions within the property and planning professions where theiranalytical, negotiating and problem-solving skills will be valued. Demandfor people with planning skills combined with knowledge of the realestate sector in the UK and abroad is strong.

Your application

Application for admission should be made through UCAS (theUniversities and Colleges Admissions Service). Applicants currently atschool or college will be provided with advice on the process; however,applicants who have left school or who are based outside the UnitedKingdom may obtain information directly from UCAS.

We will look for evidence of your interest in our subject in your personalstatement. We hope to see a demonstrable interest in, andunderstanding of, the links between urban planning, design and realestate, as well as an ability to write coherently, communicate effectively,and think critically. You will also be expected to demonstrate evidence ofyour numeracy skills and we will assess your use of English.

Shortlisted applicants living in or near to the UK will be invited to anapplicant open day. This will typically include an introduction to UCL andthe School of Planning, a presentation on UCL accommodation andfinance, a taster lecture delivered by an academic in the School ofPlanning, lunch and a tour of the campus with current students, and aninteractive Q&A session with members of staff and current students.

Entry requirements

A LEVELSStandard Offer: AAB. No specific subjects.

Contextual Offer: BBB. No specific subjects.

GCSEEnglish Language and Mathematics at grade C or 5. For UK-basedstudents, a grade C or 5 or equivalent in a foreign language (other thanAncient Greek, Biblical Hebrew or Latin) is required. IB DIPLOMAStandard Offer: 36. A score of 17 points in three higher level subjects,with no score lower than 5.

Typical UPC students will be high achievers in a 12-year school systemwhich does not meet the standard required for direct entry to UCL.

TUITION FEES
