Long-lasting parasite protection for dogs and cats*

Page 2: Long-lasting parasite protection for dogs and cats · fortnightly treatments require diligent reapplication. The majority of pet owners only treat for fleas and ticks every 3 months

Monthly and fortnightly treatments

require diligent reapplication.

The majority of pet owners only treat for fleas and ticks every

3 months or less frequently1.

Inconsistently applied treatments can leave dogs and cats vulnerable to

parasite risks.

There is a gap between what owners perceive their dog or cat needs and what they are actually administering.

WHY IS COMPLIANCE IMPORTANT?

Page 3: Long-lasting parasite protection for dogs and cats · fortnightly treatments require diligent reapplication. The majority of pet owners only treat for fleas and ticks every 3 months

2

Compliance The need for less frequent applications may lead to fewer gaps in protection.

Safe 125 million Bravecto doses have been dispensed in over 85 different countries.

Peace of mind Fewer treatments to remember – less to forget.

ChoiceAvailable in convenient weight ranges to suit all types of cats and dogs.

PARASITE PROTECTION

• The cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis) is highly tolerant to a wide range of environmental conditions2.

• Fleas aren’t just an itchy pest to dogs and cats but can also trigger more serious consequences.

• Fleas can also carry immature tapeworm. If an infected flea is ingested by a dog when they are grooming, they can become infested with tapeworm.

• Once an owner sees fleas on their pet, there is already an environmental flea infestation in the form of eggs, larvae and pupae within the home.

• These environmental stages account for 95% of the flea population and due to the required time to pass through the stages of the flea life cycle, it can take 2 months or more to eradicate an infestation3,4.

• This is often frustrating for pet owners, as even after applying a flea treatment, the immature stages are acting as an ongoing source of new adult fleas which infest their pets.

• Sustaining a flea-free household requires year-round protection. Make it easier for pet owners by recommending long-lasting Bravecto.

PARALYSIS TICKS

• Tick paralysis is caused by the paralysis tick (Ixodes holocyclus).

• Paralysis ticks are unique to Australia and are most commonly found along the eastern seaboard.

• These ticks can cause serious disease and even death in domestic dogs and cats5.

• Paralysis ticks can occur all year round, peaking from August through to March6.

Paralysis Tick Symptoms

• With just one dose*, Bravecto treats and controls pre-existing and new paralysis ticks7,8,9,10.

• Bravecto doesn’t repel ticks - ticks must attach and feed from the animal to be exposed to fluralaner, therefore attached ticks may be seen.

• Daily searching for, and removal of any ticks found is recommended as the risk of tick paralysis cannot be entirely eliminated.

• The brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus) is the most widely distributed tick species globally and can endure both temperate and tropical climates11.

• These ticks are known to be active in the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia11.

• With one engorged female brown dog tick able to lay up to 4,000 eggs12, not only is this tick a nuisance, but it can also be a vector for a range of tick-borne diseases13.

• One dose* of Bravecto treats and controls the brown dog tick and year-round prevention should be considered for at risk dogs14.

DEMODEX, SARCOPTES AND EAR MITES

• Under certain conditions, dogs and cats can become infested by a group of parasites called mites.

• Clinical signs differ depending on the mite but can include crusty or scaly skin, itching and hair loss15.

• Just one dose* of Bravecto will treat and control demodex mites, sarcoptic mange (caused by Sarcoptes scabiei) and ear mites in dogs.

• Just one dose of Bravecto will treat and control ear mites in cats.

INTESTINAL WORMS

• Roundworms and hookworms can infect cats16,17.

• These seemingly quiet houseguests can reside in the intestinal tract of cats and cause ill thrift, weight loss, pot-bellied appearance, vomiting and intermittent diarrhoea17.

• Transmission is via the faecal oral route16 and occasionally they can be transmitted to humans16,17.

• One dose* of Bravecto Plus treats roundworm and hookworm infestations.

HEARTWORM

• The prevalence of heartworm infection in cats is between 5% and 10% of that in dogs in any given area18,19.

• No matter how hard we try to avoid mosquitoes, they frequently find a way to our skin and just a single infected mosquito bite can transmit heartworm larvae to a cat19.

• These thread-like worms take up residence in the heart and lungs and can cause coughing, increased respiratory effort, malaise and in severe cases fatal acute lung injury often resulting in death18,19.

• One dose* of Bravecto Plus prevents heartworm disease in cats for 2 months.
