Brain References
Religion (religiosity): individuals who have chosen
to affiliate with a group or denomination that
typically has a defined set of doctrines or beliefs
and espouses regular proscribed worship practices
Spiritual (spirituality): the spirit in which one lives
life, the practice of love-based attitudes and high-
level wellness living integrated into daily life that can
be shared with others but do not require adherence
to organized religion for their practice
Note: Religiosity and spirituality do not always align or come
together in the same package (Crusades, Holy Wars)
Definitionswww.ArleneTaylor.org
1. Dieting generally does not work long term—within
about three years most people gain back whatever
they lost—and sometimes even more—which can
result in negative outcomes
2. A person is diagnosed with diabetes every 20
seconds in the USA—most with diabetes type 2 that
can move to diabetes type 3 or diabetes mellitus
3. There is an obesity pandemic and obesity is
linked with more than 50 diseases—cardiovascular,
type 2 diabetes, cancers, autoimmune conditions,
hormone imbalances, dementia, and more
Studies have Shownwww.ArleneTaylor.org
Brain-based because everything starts in the
brain ― this is the Age of the Brain
Aligns with research studies about what works
Affordable for the average person and for
organizations that want to present a program
Aligns with social networking for community
presentations ― this is the age of networking
Spiritual ― to follow Christ’s model but not
religious per se (human mind may be ‘naturally
calibrated to embrace spiritual perceptions’
―Newberg & Waldman)

1. As a personal lifestyle choice
You role-model all the time but only
what you know AND have implemented in your life
Applied in combination, the components of a
Longevity Lifestyle can help you create a brain
friendly lifestyle that can improve your own health,
increase your likelihood of living younger longer,
and role-model current research to others that can
help them be healthier, happier, more hopeful, and
live younger for longer
Use it Yourselfwww.arlenetaylor.org
2. So you can give a reason for what you do
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone
who asks you to give the reason —I Peter 3:15 NIV
Scripture tells you what to do—designed to help
you be well and live a long time with high levels of
mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health
Research is providing valuable brain-function
and longevity study conclusions that provide
reasons for scriptural admonition

Share Because You Carewww.arlenetaylor.org
Reportedly, within 7/10 of a second, a person
meeting you will gain an instant impression that
will be lasting—difficult to change—and based on:
Body language – 75% (how you look and act)
Actual words – 10% (what you say)
Tonality / voice inflection – 15% (how you sound)
What are you role-modeling? Living a Longevity
Lifestyle can enhance your role-modeling…

The LLM Program is a wonderful follow-up outreach
to the clinics many churches and communities run:
• 12 weeks for attendees to get to know you
• 12 weeks to become good friends
• 12 weeks to alter behaviors and see results
All you need to do is to Facilitate—the LLM team has
done everything else
LLM program definitions with its 14 components and
researched reasons follow
LLM Descriptionwww.arlenetaylor.org
Longevity Lifestyle Matters is a brain-
based program—one of the first of its
kind. It is not about dieting. Within the
space of about three years most people
gain back all they lost and more. Neither is it about
deprivation, which can lead to bingeing. Nor is it
about a negative mindset. That can lead to failure.
And it is not about over-exercising or compulsively
counting calories or embracing prolonged fasting or
any other ’fad’—all of which can lead to failure,
discouragement, and depression. Rather, it
embraces the exponential power of science working
hand-in-glove with the brain / body and scripture.
Slow and steady wins. Not a short term fix,
the researched components are designed
to be implemented in balance, since the brain and
body work best in balance. Each component links
back to the brain in some way, because everything
starts in the brain. And because every brain is
different, each implements the principles in a way
that will work for it for the rest of the person’s
life—to help reduce risks for multiple diseases and
chronic conditions and increase the potential for
living healthier and younger for longer.
A Longevity Lifestyle Matters.
Description, Cont’dwww.arlenetaylor.org
Be transformed by the renewing of your mind
—Romans 12:2
A positive, active, and creative mindset provides
the foundation and direction for a Longevity
Lifestyle and a full cup—because everything starts
in the brain—optimism is associated with longevity,
health, and retention of memory and cognition
Maximize a ‘growth’ can-do attitude. If you have an
enemy outpost of negativity inside your brain, get
rid of it. Avoid worry and anxiety as they tend to
trigger the stress response.
1 - Mindsetwww.arlenetaylor.org
Think on these things (true, noble, right, pure,
lovely, admirable, excellent, praise-worthy)
—Phil 4:8
Take responsibility for creating and living a positive
self-talk style. Studies show that people tend to
communicate with others in the way they talk to
themselves so effective communication begins with
your own habitual self-talk
Tell your brain what you are doing as if it’s a done
deal and stop talking about what you don’t want to
have happen (avoid don’t and can’t and won’t);
Say: ‘Jim/Joan, you can … You are …’
2 – Self-Talkwww.ArleneTaylor.org
Thy sleep shall be sweet —Proverbs 3:24
Sleep is independently linked with longevity
Give your brain the sleep it needs in as dark a
room as possible to avoid interfering with
melatonin production
Sleep deprivation can drain your energy,
accelerate aging, suppress both brain and immune
system functions, trigger weight gain, and shorten
your potential longevity
3 - Sleepwww.arlenetaylor.org
4 – Stay Hydratedwww.ArleneTaylor.org
Let us be given water to drink —Daniel 1:12
Dehydration can increase the production of free
radicals, which can wrinkle your internal organs as
well as your skin (outside wrinkles mean inside
wrinkles . . .)
Water is your most essential nutrient—unless
medically contraindicated, drink enough pure water
to have one or two pale urines per day
Learn to differentiate between thirst and
physiological hunger—drink a big glass of water
15-30 minutes before you eat
Your body is a temple . . . you are not your own—I Cor 6:19
Protect the brain / body leased to you for use on this
planet: choose carefully what you expose them to
and what you put on, around, and into them
Avoid pugilistic sports and any games that ‘head the
ball,’ arrange your environment to prevent falls, wear
a helmet when bike-riding and for other sports
activities such as skiing and skate-boarding
Will the care of your leased brain-body be approved
when you turn them back in?
5 – Safetywww.arlenetaylor.org
6 – Move it or Lose itwww.ArleneTaylor.org
Physical training is of some value … —I Tim 4:8
Physical activity and exercise is the single best
thing you can do for your brain. It also helps tone
your body, promote balance (homeostasis), and
variety is key to keep your brain interested and
motivated; select activities you enjoy and have fun
doing them by yourself or with others
Minimize sitting and maximize physical activity; aim
to exercise for 30 minutes each a day, in sections of
10 or 15 minutes, if you prefer
7 – Challenge Your Brainwww.ArleneTaylor.org
Study to show yourself approved . . . a worker
who needs not to be ashamed —2 Tim 2:15
Read aloud for 10 minutes every day, learn to play
an instrument—minimize passive mental activities
such as TV and movies to retain memory / cognition
Engage in stimulating, mental activities for at least
30 minutes a day to keep your brain active—a gift to
yourself and everyone who knows you. Study to
learn and then turn the information into knowledge
and the practically applied knowledge into wisdom
8 – Sunlight www.ArleneTaylor.org
The sun (son) of righteousness will rise with
healing in its rays —Malachi 4:2 NIV
Plants, creatures, and humans must have sunlight
to live—flood your home with sunlight but minimize
direct exposure to bright sun. Avoid sunburn,
tanning parlors, and ultraviolet light as they may
increase your risk for skin cancer and suppress
immune system function
Christ is compared to the sun—let the ‘sun’ and the
‘son’ flood your brain and body with light
9 – Quality Nutritionwww.ArleneTaylor.org
Every plant and tree yielding seed and every
green plant (the original menu) —Genesis 1:29-30
You are what you eat—critical to brain function!
Emphasize Mediterranean-style plant-based
unrefined and unprocessed foods
Eat when you are physiologically hungry and avoid
snacking, especially of empty calories. Practice
good portion-control to role-model health and
energy and keep the body and brain—leased to you
for use on this planet—looking and working at peak
condition. Review the ‘Daniel Experiment’ Ch 1.
10 – Be Happy and Laughwww.ArleneTaylor.org
A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful
mind works healing —Proverbs 17:22 Amplified Bible
Humor and laughter are beneficial to both brain and
the immune system—laugh mirthfully a minimum of
30 times per day. Very happy people reportedly
laugh between 100 and 400 times a day—and they
tend to be healthier and often very long lived
Schedule regular opportunities for play,
relaxation, fun, and variety. As the old saying
goes: a change is as good as a rest.
11 – Support networkwww.ArleneTaylor.org
Bad company ruins good morals —I Cor 15:33
Be the person you want for your best friend.
Choose your close friends carefully because within
three years you are at risk for picking up their
habits—especially for happiness, smoking, health,
and obesity (and you also influence them)
Select those who are smart, affirming, cheerful, and
reciprocal, who have a good sense of humor and
laugh a lot, and are on a Longevity Lifestyle. Be
brave enough to let go of those who are abusive or
who drag you down.
12 – Manage Stresswww.ArleneTaylor.org
Never worry about anything —Phil 4:6
Unmanaged stress (including worry and anxiety)
pour out stress hormones, including cortisol and
adrenalin, which can kill brain cells and contribute
to dementia, accelerate aging, suppress immune
system and brain functions, and trigger eating and
drinking outside of nutritional balance.
Live the 20:80 Rule: Only 20 percent of the negative
impact to your brain and body is due to the event or
situation itself; 80 percent is due to your perception
of the event and the weight you give to it.
13 – Raise Your EQwww.ArleneTaylor.org
As you think in your heart . . . —Proverbs 23:7
Emotional Intelligence is linked with heart neurons
IQ (20%) + EQ (80%) = SQ or Success Quotient
Raise your EQ: learn to identify core emotions
quickly and accurately and manage them effectively.
Feelings follow thoughts. If you don’t like the way
you feel, change the way you think.
Avoid JOT behaviors: jumping to conclusions,
overreacting, and taking things personally. Get help
to create healthier habit patterns, as needed.
Fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith) —Gal 5:22
Studies of people who are healthy and happy and
live a long time show that ‘life satisfaction’ is key
Hone your spirituality—the spirit in which you live
life. Live in a state of gratitude. Craft your own
personal life vision and move toward it...
Leave a legacy—do something to make your corner
of the world a better place than when you arrived on
this planet—and make what you contribute count!
14 – Life Satisfactionwww.ArleneTaylor.org
Let us go across the lake —Mark 4:35
Put on your oxygen mask first —Airline Instruction
Self-care is not selfish―you cannot serve from an
empty vessel ―Eleanor Brownn
An empty cup has nothing of value to share―true
caring service comes from a full cup that just
overflows to others
Live the 14 LLM brain-based components in balance
to help you be healthier, potentially live younger
longer, and role-model ‘caring sharing’ with others
Fill Your Cup First…www.ArleneTaylor.org
Serve Otherswww.ArleneTaylor.org
As a person has received a gift, use it to
serve one another —I Peter 4:10
LLM is a brain-based networking outreach that uses
Christ’s method and is cost effective—it can be
used by schools, churches, hospitals, and other
organizations (regardless of religion or no religion)
Facilitators can become certified on line
