Chinese made but the name and original watches have a lot of history

http://www.ingersoll-watches.co.uk/i...bout_ingersoll

During their years of tireless creative urge. Robert and Charles Ingersoll, the founders of one of

the oldest American watch manufacturers established many milestones in the field of developing

Page 8: Looking for a new brand on ShopNBC

pocket watches and wrist watches.

They followed an ambitious plan to on one hand, offer watches to the broad public and on the

other hand to offer reasonable prices whilst maintaining real quality. In 1892 thanks to Henry

Ford they succeeded to develop an automated production first for pocket watches and later for

wrist watches. Alongside the existing handcrafted production of Ingersoll watches an automated

production of watches was established.

With high quality and precision, at the very reasonable price of 1 dollar (which was a days

wages at the time) the so-called "Dollar-Watch" was born. The Dollar-Watch became so popular

that about 1 million of these watches were produced. Even Theodore Roosevelt mentioned that

during his hunting trip in Africa he was described as "the man from the country where Ingersoll

was produced".

Link

The success of the "Dollar Watch" from then on also called the "Yankee" was amazing. The

Ingersoll brothers had to adapt to increasing production and increasing production plants.

Meanwhile, the product range had been expanded by some technical pioneering refinements.

Also the production of the smallest pocket watch ever seen had begun.

In 1919 the Ingersoll brothers developed the first watch with the so called "night design", the

"Radiolite" with luminoious dial.

That Bison No.9 looks amazing . Thick and chunky.

My only concern is it's listing for almost $500 ?? Huh

For a Hardend Mineral Crystal and Seagull movement. Android lives in that house for under

$200. That's almost Imperious prices and they are hand made hand assembled Swiss

movements.

As I have said before I "try" not to buy Chinese. I have not been very successful. My TV was

assembled in Mexico and the next one I by in the near future will be assembled anywhere but

China. I am not saying Chinese products are bad in themselves, (lead in paint, dog food

poisoned etc) If this offends people I am sorry, but the Chinese are not our friends. Like I said I

am sorry......................

PS This is the last time I will bring this up, I don't want to get involved with this subject or any

WHY

Took a look at their product line. Nice to see so many automatics. The problem is can this lineup

stand the pressure of competing with Android or Stuhrling? I am a new geek, but a collector for

over 40 years and have some reservations. I think that I am going to miss Renato. However I am

going to keep an open mind when you present them.

Acutally I've heard the same kind of comments about Vostak and the Russians. Maybe some of

the attitudes are a result of ones individual history. No big deal if you're not comfortable support

this group or that group don't, America let freedom ring!

They have a nice look to them. I will say I've never seen one in person, but have seen them

online and the prices are not as low as I like for that type of watch. At least in other online

stores. I'll keep an open mind, and watch to see them live. I can't rule them out for me yet.

Their watches look good although not "new" in design or style. Maybe they have some nicer

leather bands than most, or nicer details once you see them upclose on the presentations. I'm big

on day/date and auto so that helps if the price is good. However, I still need to get past the name

before even concerning myself with where it was made or assembled..... And I don't think I can.
