NAMASTE DAYAN INTRODUCTION / TRAINING
The Heart of Kent Hospice are running a pilot study group on introducing Namaste into care homes. On 28th January Paula Smy, Hayley & Karen our Recreation & Well Being Champions along with Viv Stead Manager of Recreation & Well Being and Leni Wood Nellsar's Nutrition & Wellness Manager learnt just what the Namaste day is all about.
To improve Hydration, Nutrition and helps with anxiety.
We learn about our surroundings through our senses : Sight, Smell, Touch , Taste, Sound and movement.
Setting the room with indian style fabrics to decorate, play relaxing music as the sound creates an ambiance, we will have a trolley with drinks and some fresh fruits and cakes.Sitting in a group we will give hand massages and foot spa with essential oils or cream, while the Resident can relax, unwind and feel calm.
We will be starting to implement the programme in the next month, and hope it will be very beneficial for our Residents who would like a pamper session. This has worked wonders in another Nellsar home and has a positive effect on both Resident and Well Being staff.
With Juices, fresh fruits and cakes on display can stimulate a Residents appetite and also fluid intake, so helps to reduce UTI's.
One to one sessions for those Residents in bed so everybody is included.

The Kingfisher Medway Trust is a registered charity. It was set up to commission the building of a boat which would provide river trips for disadvantaged people of all ages.
She was designed by a marine architect and constructed to meet all necessary safety requirements and is licensed to carry a maximum of 12 passengers.
A team of qualified skippers and trained crew members, all volunteers, operate the boat on its trips from her berth at Wateringbury on the river Medway.
The boat is fitted with a lift to help wheelchair users and others to get on board easily and safely. Space restricts us to carrying no more than 3 ordinary wheelchairs at any one time. Unfortunately, because of their weight, electric wheelchairs are a problem and can only be taken by prior arrangement when booking.
The front seating area has padded seats and backrests and the side curtains can be rolled up to allow you to feel close to the river on your cruise.
Don’t be put off if the weather isn’t particularly hot or sunny. The curtains are transparent, when rolled down you will still enjoy the sights of the river and have an interesting and enjoyable trip.
Once underway we make sure everyone is comfortable before offering tea, coffee, or soft drinks from the galley.
For extra comfort the WC area is big enough to accommodate a wheelchair. It is fitted out with disabled people in mind and has a basin with hot and cold water.
REGISTERED CHARITY NUMBER 1108393
